Question about Digital Cameras

5 Answers

I have an Pentax Optio 60, and whether I put in brand new batteries, or recharged lithiums, it always shows either yellow or red "battery warning". Sometimes, when I put them in, it briefly shows "green" in the battery indicator, but then quickly changes to "red" or "yellow". I really like the camera, but this is a real pain. Can you help?

Contacts are as clean as new, both sides, on both ends. That's not the problem.

That is perfectly normal , your Pentax, as written on manual, is designed to work with special high capacity batteries, like the ones linked here.

Just buy the proper batteries and the low charge sign will go.

You need high quality batterys, 2500mah is good enought. If you already have great batterys I would have the camera looked at by your dealer if you have warranty or you can get a free repair estimate from

My pentax optio m20 wont turn on

Take out the batteries and clean contacts with alcohol and a Q-tip the long ones like a doctor uses are better. If the batteries are more
than two years old I would replace them. I take it that this camera
probably uses AA. Reg. Alkaline batteries would be alright just to
try it with if you get it working then I would put a set of lithium batteries in it as these last far longer. You can also buy rechargeable AA batteries. If it has a lithium L-Ion rechargeable battery pack and it
is several years old you may want to buy a new one for it. There is
several reasonable sellers on Ebay with the proper battery for your camera. If this don't solve your problem I would say the camera is done. In my experience these new cameras just don't last as long as the old manual film cameras.

As soon as I switch camera on it switches off. Batteries are good.

What kind of batteries are you using? Make sure they are rechargable. Normal batteries are not strong enough. Try using either rechargable Lithium Ion batteries, or rechargable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries. These are much stronger and should give you a good battery life.
If you are already using these, I suggest you take it back to where you bought it.

Hope this helps,
Gillian

My camera is now going through batteries very quickly - 10 pictures per set of batteries - even less if using the flash. what could be the problem?

E10 and s45 same problem

the batteries needed for the cameras are quite high powered

though the batteries show that they are fuly charged most times they have lost their actual capacity of power storage in them so not being able to supply enough to start the camera best way to test this is to start the camera on preview mode if this works then you will need to buy a new set of rechargable batteries, i would suggest to take batteries in the range of 2000MAh to 2500MAh and

the normal batteries will not be able to sustain long even for normal lens open and retract functions, instead of normal batteries try LR6 varieties (eg: Duracell, Energizer, etc)

Camera will not accept the new batteries.

I called pentax and they told me only use Energizer batteries. I did not think it would make a differance but the "cheap" batteries do not deliver steady power even that there new the power flux is enough to throw these new cameras off. there that sinistive. Energizer's deliver a very even power and that is the only battery that pentax recamends. All outhers even dualcell delivers uneven power and that will cause the camera to think the batteries are dead.
