If you are able to play Playstation 2 games, but not PS3 games then that means the blu ray laser has went bad. The lasers are a 2 part laser, The PS2 games take a lot less power to read than the blu ray or PS3 games, that is why you can still play PS2 games but not PS3s. The lasers are a little bit pricy for these units, $60-$80 depending on which model laser is in your unit. I recommend that you have a professional install the new laser in your unit because of the sensitive nature of the internal electronics. One thing you don't want to do is damage the original blu ray drive mother board, the blu ray drive has Firmware on it that has to match the motherboard of the Ps3 unit or it will not play anything at all. If you want me to replace the laser for you I can do that, just contact me and we can talk about it email@example.com
go to the play stations web site to find out what the code means.
if your ps3 has a message of trophy registration error sony will say you need to turn in your ps3 for service this is not true i fixed mine by saving my game data on a thumbstick then deleted the game save data shut off my ps3 then turned the main power (the switch in the back) off for a few minutes to allow the power to dissipate. Then i restarted the ps3 copied my game save data back and my COD modern warfare 2 played like a champ! i did lose all of my trophies but the game saved data allowed for 12 percent of them to come back apon completing one special op mission.
hold the power button down when it is red till you hear the quick beeps then select the file restore. this is a diagnostics screen...you may have to hold the power button in for several seconds....does your ps3 work on a non hidef tv?
hold the power button down when it is red till you hear the quick beeps then select the file restore this is a diagnostics menu..remember you have to hold the power button down till you see a menu that youve probably never seen
Try using a can of air to blow out the fan area. Even though its well ventilated it may be full of dust. It sounds like an overheating issue. Also look into aftermarket fan/cooling solutions, that dont plug directly into the PS3 and have there own outlet power plug.
It's because your trying to play american games on a japanese system. See the japanese system is different because of not only how much Power it needs to function (I'd be wary about that btw) as well that a Japanese PS3 can only play Japanese PS3 games. American games wont work for it.
