Vcr sensor not responding to remote

Hello
If you are sure that the remote control works well, and VCR does not respond to it [you haven't here given any details about uour VCR; its Brand name, Model number etc:-], the remote sensor of your VCR is faulty. You can replace it, if you have an idea and knoledge in electronics. You have to disassemble the front panel of the VCR, to locate this device. It will come just behind the infrared window, will look somewhat bronish black in colour, a three terminal component.

gopakumarg43_89.jpggopakumarg43_90.jpg I hereby includes the picture of a typical infrared remote sensor, and its typical circuit dagram, to know you the pin numbers. Just try, if you are familier with electronic equipment service. If you are not skilled to do this work, get this set repaired by any experinced service technican. OK.

Remote control-function stopped working. After batteries were replaced and it still didn't work I assumed it was the remote, so I purchased another one. Remote-function still doesn't work, so I can only...

Yes it will most likely be the remote sensor on the VCR. If you find where the actual point of entry for signals from the remote control, you should be able to trace the circuit back to the pc board. You should find an IC, chances are it's failed. Of course it could be the sensor itself, but I doubt it. If you put the IC number into Google, you should be able to find out the cost and other details, also if it still is made!

There appears to be no 'menu' button on the remote

First make sure the cables are truly in the right places. The antenna or cable goes to the VCR's antenna input connector, and there should be a cable from the output connector to the TV's antenna input. Sometimes people get the input and output cables reversed.

The VCR's output to the TV will either be on channel 3 or 4. Those are the only choices, so you should be getting the signal on one of them. On some Sanyo models there is a switch on the back near the "out to TV" connector to select the channel. On others you need the remote to select through the VCR setup menu. Check the remote for a button labeled "TV/VCR" and press that while a tape is playing. That button controls whether the signal from the VCR goes to the TV, or if it just passes the antenna signal through to the TV. Try both channels 3 and 4 on the TV.

If you are never able to get a picture from the VCR on either channel, its RF output section may be bad. This can happen. You can get around this if your TV has a/v inputs available. Connect the red and white audio (red is right channel and white is the left) output jacks and yellow video output jack on the VCR to the corresponding inputs on the TV. Then switch the TV to the a/v input to watch the VCR.

Have cable tv and wanting to tape a certain channel

I would suggest that you disconnect the VCR from any signal source. UNPLUG the VCR from the power source [a/c] for at least one hour, more if possible. Before you are ready to plug the machine into a/c attach an antenna to the antenna INPUT, the VCR output goes to input of tv. [ DON'T attach cable box, or any such machine to the input of VCR.] Plug vcr into outlet and turn ON. Place TV-VCR switch on TV. [no remote control??] Change the channel MANUALLY, one channel at a time. If you see tv stations as you change the channel [KEEP changing until you have reached the " end of the line " of broadcast channels.] then you are good.Connecting the vcr to a cable box[ANY KIND!] you can only RECORD through the vcr what you watch on cable.

How to tune to tv channels

There is a switch [tv-vcr] somewere in the front. When pressed to tv, you can change the channels FROM the vcr.You will need an "air wave" ANTENNA signal because the cable box individual channels cannot be seen when you place the switch to tv.Now if you have a cable box connected properly and turn that tv-vcr switch to vcr the individual CABLE BOX CHANNELS will show through the vcr.
p.s. There is a small switch (someware in the back of the vcr & the back of the cable box, dish box, etc., etc.) ch.3 or ch.4 and the VCR have to be on the same INPUT channel as the box.

Is the top and end sensor supposed to be off in servo check mode

If the tape is inside, both sensor should be OFF because both are photo diodes and will ON when receive Light.
Tape inside covers both sensors, so no light, no ON signal.

I am not conversant with VCRs sold in the United states, but - a VCR is a VCR is a VCR. So, can i suggest an alternate solution to your problem? Why not use the AV out sockets of your VCR and hook them to the AV IN sockets of your TV? In this manner, you you also get a better image. And of course, you feed In the signal source (Antenna, cable Box, etc) directly to the TV, and use your remote to switch to AV mode whenever you desire to watch movies or Tape.
