Remote sensor (thn122) not working, batteries changed, terminals cleaned

I have had this Oregon Scientific model RAR186 unit for years and it works great. The only issue I ever have is when the batteries need to be changed in the remote sensor unit (Oregon scientific model #THN122). It never fails that once I change the batteries that the unit does not send a signal to the base unit. I will often hit the reset button and change the channels on the remote sensor before I finally remember that you need to do the following to get the sensor to talk to the RAR186 base unit:

On the base unit (RAR186), hold down the CHANNEL and MEM buttons for at least two seconds.
You will then see a graphic appear above the channel number that shows that it is searching for the sensor.
Within a minute, you will then see the temperature displayed for the sensor showing that they are communicating.

This is buried in the manual that you probably discarded as did I.

Apparently, if your sensor is broken, you can either search to find a new sensor of the same model or also use the following sensors: THC138, THGR122NX, or THN132N
I have not needed to replace the sensor as once I found the instructions to reset the communication between the sensor and base unit, all was fine. Hope this helps someone. I wrote this instruction using a Sharpie on the inside cover of the sensor since you have to remove 3 screws to replace the AAA batteries (2) in hopes I will remember next time and not waste my time searching the internet and not find the answer. Good luck!

Good evening.,i have the RCA TruFlat model number 20F424T. I'm trying to connect a converter box and I cannot get the tv itself to change confused either manually out with the universal remote. I...

your problem is likely the universal remote will not enter the menu and engage the auto program this set has--if it does and finds nothing either no signal or a bad tuner in the set.

If set has audio video jacks see if a DVD etc works on them--can always hook up signal to those inputs to bypass the problem.

Vizio remote suddenly not working

The first thing is to test the remote: some digital cameras will if on and the remote pointed at them react on screen to the signal when buttons are pressed.

Also almost every tv shop or Radio Shack has a remote tester--point the remote at it and push any button and a strip or indicator on the tester will light up----tells you if remote is sending a signal or not.

If remote tests good---remote infrared receiver is likely bad in the set or something near it is bad.

My will not work with the remote any longer. I replaced that. When I manually turn power on, it takes 3 or 4 times before coming on. Then, it will turn off after about 30 seconds. ANy ideas?

There is an infrared sensor inside the tv to receive infrared signals transmitted by the infrared signal generating light emittin diode fixed on your remote control. Either the sensor inside the tv or light emitting diode in the remote controller faulty, remote function will not work. For manual operation troubles, check the wall power socket of plug of the tv is faulty, loose contact etc.

CHannel stays on 9 and won't go up.

This sounds like a problem with the diode matrix which pre-programs channel 9 on the PLL code signals. Probably the "channel 9" switch that activates these diodes is bad, so that the diodes are activated all the time preventing the channel switch to do its work. You will need a schematic diagram and a voltmeter to check the logic signals in this circuit. Start witht he switch; does the switch voltage change when you toggle the switch? If not; switch is bad. If it does, the problem must be "farther downstream" with the diodes itself.

My tv set is nt tuning any channel

your electronic tuner in the set may need replacement.
Are you using a remote to change channels it may be the batteries in the remoter that needs to be refreshed.
Not a lot of detail here as to what model TV this is or what remote is used.

How can you tell if the remote sensor on a tv is broken?

First you need to check if your remote is working. You can use a digital camera to do so. First place new brand batteries in your remote and then look at the signal diode (the small transparent bulb thingy at the top of your remote). If you press the buttons on your remote you should see the diode flash. If not then there are one or more bad components on you printed circuit board or probably open circuits.

Sharp Aquos HDTV Failed to receive broadcast

I too have this issue I beleive what is happening is the integrated tuner is not locking on to the channel because of a weak signal and then sending that error message . I am going to replace the cable from the splitter to this tv and see what happens. I have another new tv just installed from that splitter and it has all chanels. Remember to RE- run the locate all channels after anything is done to the cable splitter etc.

Your internal circutry is failing... it sounds like its happening after it gets warm, which may cause an old/cheap part (or parts, like capacitors) to fail inside. think about how long have you had these items and how much use they have had.  As always, thanks for using fixya
