Question about Cameras

4 Answers

I have a Canon Power Shot S300 Digital Elph and use the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disc (Ver. 4.0). Part of this software is ZoomBrowser EX 2.6 which I use to download the photos from my camera to my computer. Recently I started getting the error message "There is not enough free memory to perform the operation". I have removed all of the photos from all folders and have also uninstalled and reinstalled all of the Solution Disc software but still get the above error message. This will not allow me to enter Zoombrowzer or download any photos. How do I fix this problem? Many thanks.

Memory errors are either free space on the C drive, Virtual Memory on C drive and almost always not related to your RAM.

To check for Virtual Memory size in your PC, Right click My computer, click on the Advanced Tab, then click on the Performance Settings button. Now, click on another Advanced Tab. At the bottom of the subsequent pop up, you will see a button to take you to the Virtual Memory settings for your PC.

Change the Virtual Memory setting so they are 2048 each for min and max on C. This should create a larger working area for your program.

To free up disk space on the C drive:

1.) Delete all the cache in your Browsers

2.) Go to c:\windows\temp and delete all files that will be allowed to delete

this assumes 'windows' is where windows is installed. It may be Winnt for exapmple.

3.) Download CCleaner.exe from http://www.piriform.com/ download CCleaner installit and run that
program. When you do run that program you may want to disable the deletion of Cookies from your
    browser
, by unchecking their respetive boxes, so you do not loose login and other information such as saved password you would have to type in again later.

4.) After cleaning your C Drive don't forget to defrag it afterwards.
From within Windows Explorer right click C:\ select properties, click
on the tools tab, the click on the Defragment Now button.

Hello Fharris,

I think the problem is in your harddrive.

There seems to be full and that is why you cant download your photos to the computer, because it is full.

Please do as following to see if that is the problem or if it is something else:

1. Click on Start
2. Click on My Computer
3. Right click on your (main if you have various) Harddrive icon.
4. select properties.
5. Look how full and how much space left there is.

Good luck and please let me know what you get.

The not enough memory may pertain to your computer's RAM (memory), try to close other programs that are running on the same machine and then run the program again to transfer photos, and you will see the error message disappear.

if you have other questions just lemme know

Try first to format the memory of your camera and uninstall/reinstall again the software to your computer, and if its still not working reset the camera to its default settings...

Asus Computer doesnt recognize my Canon power shot 300 I have windows 7

Don't forget to install the Canon software that came with the camera. If you lost the camera, try the Canon website I managed to get the newest software for Windows 7 last week. Works fine.
Before your computer can work with any camera, you need drivers and some management software. Canons software is called ZoomBrowser EX. (also needed, when you want to manage pictures from a external card reader)

My canon power shot Elph wont down load or show that the camera is plugged in

Before you can download any pictures from your camera, you have to install the software that was on the CD that came with your camera. Canon also allows you to download the latest versions from there web side, when you go there.
While installing the Canon Zoombrowser, the correct drivers are installed too.

I have a new Dell Inspiron with Windows 7. No matter what I try I can't load/download a driver for Canon Ixus 300. I have the CD, but it is not compatible with Windows7.

Your CD is for an older version of Windows and the installers/drivers have changed over time. The driver you need is part of the Windows 7 OS so you should be able to just connect the camera to the computer using the appropriate USB cable.

The software update for the ZoomBrowser EX is available here: http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0000484.asp if you need. Use the drop-down menu to select Windows 7. Download and save the file. Then launch the updater (double-click) and insert your CD in the optical drive of the computer. Then follow the on-screen directions to install the ZoomBrowser EX version for Win7.

You can import from the camera with Paint (File > Import from Camera or Scanner) and PhotoGallery (if you have the Windows Live package installed)

I hope this helps.

Canon zoombrowser ex ver 6.4.1 with windows 7

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use ZoomBrowser or any other photo cataloging program.

Problem with Zoombrowser EX Digital Camera software. I've downloaded Zoombrowser EX to my computer...disk from Canon camera purchase. When I click on the icon, I get "class not registered". Some...

This is a registry error. Try this: type regsvr32 quartz.dll in the run box on your computer. That would be: Click start, run, and then type this into the box.
If yoou do this correctly, you should see a message that it was registered correctly.
Try the program to see if it fixed the issue.

Zoombrowser not working- not able to download RAW images to computer

Make sure you turned the camera on. Could be a bad cable. Best thing to get is a usb card reader. Some people report problems of bent pins because of removing and reinserting them in the camera. So be careful there. Re-Install the software that came with it from Canon. Or you can download it from CanonUSA. URL below.
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=314&modelid=14256

choose your OS and download what you need.
Looks like ZoomBrowser is up to 6.1 now.

ZoomBrowser EX

Canon USA has manuals for Zoombrowser available for download from their site, but they're all in English. If you have ZB version 6 you can download the manual here. If you have ZB version 5, you can download the manual here.

How do you set the image's filename to automatically include timestamp and date

Dear jeannesc:

I am assuming that you are using ZoomBrowser EX ver 5.8 which comes with the SD750's Digital Camera Solutions disc. Therefore these instruction will pertain to that version of the program.

You can rename image files using four different naming schemes:

1. Image Name + Number (e.g. Vacation_001.jpg)
2. Shooting date + Number (e.g. 20080601_001.jpg)
3. Name + Shooting date + Number OR
4. Shooting date + Name + Number

There isn't a provision for a time stamp naming convention.

To rename a group of images using one of the above naming schemes simply open ZoomBrowser and point it to the folder that contains the images you wish to rename. For this example let's assume it was your recent vacation photos.

I would utilize either Zoom or Scroll mode to view the images on the main screen. Then follow these steps:

1. Click the task panel labeled "View & Classify"
2. Next click the sub panel "Rename Multiple Files"
3. On the left hand panel click Step 1 "Select images"
[Here you can select any or all images in the folder]
4. Next click Step 2 "Specify Rename Settings"
5. Select the way you want the files to be named and enter
the appropriate settings. Note: If you wish to keep the original
file and make a copy with the new naming scheme make
sure you check "Make Copies of files"
6. Lastly click Finish and your newly renamed files will be there
in the folder.

Hopes this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB

Canon Power Shot A520 upload a image to the computer

Dear binghau:

The surefire way to have the date show on your pictures is to set your camera's resolution to PostCard Mode and thus record the date stamp on the picture itself. Your ZoomBrowser software, however can put the date on each of your images. I am using ZoomBrowser EX ver 5.8 as an example. If yoiur version if different it will still have similar functionality.

You can rename image files using four different naming schemes:

1. Image Name + Number (e.g. Vacation_001.jpg)
2. Shooting date + Number (e.g. 20080601_001.jpg)
3. Name + Shooting date + Number OR
4. Shooting date + Name + Number

You may choose to do either method 2 or 4 to get the date.

To rename selected images or a group of images using one of the above naming schemes simply open ZoomBrowser and point it to the folder that contains the images you wish to rename.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB
