Question about Digital Cameras

I have a new PowerShot A580 and am having problems: 1. Every time I turn on my camera it asks for me to set the date and time. I've done it and saved it, but the same message keeps recurring. What can I do?

I have the same problem on PowerShot A580. It worked OK first, but then it resets the date every time it is turned off.

Replace this small battery near memory card:P it is hidden under a piece of plastic. it works like a battery on a mainboard - keeps clock alive.

I paid for this new battery and it didn't work. I still have the date/time set every time. I really want to use the date stamp feature and I can't set it. I is greyed out probably because of this not staying saved issue.

Will not set date and time

You just simply need to set the time and date and you will be set to go and not see this come up again. It can be done in the setup menu on your camera.

Every time I turn on camera it ask to set date,

The Time/Date battery is a small round lithium battery the size of a dime in the battery compartment. You can get the numbers off it and buy one at Walmart or Ebay.

How to print pics with the date stamp from canon A580

The date stamp feature on this camera will only work in postcard mode- resolution set to 2M (1600 x 1200) and compression set to fine. You have to set the picture mode to that first. You also have to set the date and time if it isn't set already.

To set the mode quickly, set the mode switch to camera, turn the mode dial to A (auto), then press Func. button, scroll down to the "L", scroll across to the mountains with the clock dial, then press the Disp. button to turn date prinitng on and off.

If you've replaced the date battery, then the camera is defective. Being only a month old, first recommend seeing if your retailer will exchange it. If not, Canon will fix for free under warranty. Call 1-800-OK-CANON.

Adjusting date and time

According to Canon, the backup memory lithium battery (interal) recharges off the main AA batts that you put in... the manual says it takes about 4 hours to charge this battery.
When not in use, leave the AA batts in the camera .. see if this helps keep the date/time memory!
