HP 3030 ADF

Joed911
Thanks for your instructions but I'm having a little difficulty following them... First of all the cover to the ADF is on the left.. as I look under there ..the ADF is composed of rollers and gears.. which part of that is the "sensor?" Please describe what the sensor looks like. I don't see anything that toggles or is spring loaded... HELP! and thanks again.

It was good to know that there was someone out there willing to help and thank you. Believe it or not I solved the problem accidentally. After playing with the ADF gears and making sure they were making contact, I grabbed hold of the bar that the gears are attached to and gave it a slight twist to see how it affected the gears themselves and see if they would turn. For some reason, that twist made the gears seat themselves in a new position, after which I closed the lid, inserted a piece of paper, the screen displayed that the paper had been inserted, I hit the copy button... and it worked!
Conclusion: Somehow those gears had fallen out of proper alignment. This was keeping the ADF unit from accepting paper properly.
    Thank you again.

Follow the path that the paper would take. As the paper goes into the ADF, the very first thing it should hit is a small black paddle which when the paper pushes it down, it triggers the sensor and tells the unit that paper is about to go through the ADF.

HP3030. ADF Not sensing. I initially reported this problem last November. However, I was able to corrected by simply turning the gear bar on the ADF and somehow it started working again.. until now. It is...

Try blowing out the hole where the little black toggle is, dust on the sensor below can stop it from sensing a document. If you google for HP3030 parts you will see many places that have ADF assemblies for your machine, not too difficult to change.

Automatic Document Feeder ADF

Open the small ADF cover on the top right. There you will see rollers and a paper sensor. First make sure the isn't any paper stuck in the rollers. Clean the rollers with a damp cotton pad or cloth a small amount of dishwashing detergent. Make sure it is damp. Then check to make sure that the paper sensor lever is working by toggling it. The paper sensor is spring loaded, check that the spring is in place.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

ADF not working.

if the black line shows only when you use the ADF, lift the whole document feeder, and look on the very left of the glass (the area onto which the paper is travels from the ADF). Check that the glass is clean in that area.

How do I scan a bunch of originals from the tray and get 1 file for each page?

Loading originals to scan
Use these instructions to load originals into your device for scanning. For the best quality
scans, use the flatbed scanner. See Selecting media for the automatic document feeder
(ADF) for guidelines on choosing original documents for scanning.
Loading originals onto the flatbed scanner
1. Make sure that the automatic document feeder (ADF) input tray is free of media.
2. Lift the flatbed scanner lid.
3. Place the original document face-down on the flatbed scanner with the top, left corner of
the document at the lower-right corner of the glass.
4. Gently close the lid.
5. The document is ready to be scanned.
CAUTION To prevent damaging the device, do not allow the scanner lid to fall onto the flatbed scanner
surface. Always close the scanner lid when the device is not in use.
Loading originals into the automatic document feeder (ADF)
input tray
Note The ADF capacity is up to 50 sheets of 75 g/m2 (20 lb) media (depending on the thickness of
the media), or fewer sheets if the stack fills the ADF.
The minimum size for media in the ADF is 127 by 127 mm (5 by 5 inches). For smaller sizes
use the flatbed scanner. The maximum size for media in the ADF is 215.9 by 381 mm (8.5 by
15 inches).
1. Make sure that the flatbed scanner contains no media.
2. Close the flatbed scanner cover and put the top end of the stack of originals into the ADF
input tray, with the media stack face-up and the first page to be scanned on top of the
stack.
3. Slide the stack into the ADF input tray until it does not move any farther.
