Hi there Malatesta -

I haven't specifically changed ink on your specific model but have on another Canon printer and suspect that the process should be very similar

Here is the process that I used on the other Canon printer

Turn the printer on and open the printer cover. (The print head will move from the right to the center.)
Lift up on the Push mark on the black ink tank to unlock the ink tank from the allocated slot of the print head and lift it out.

How to Reinstall the new black ink tank

Install the new black ink tank by inserting the the new black ink tank where the old one was removed. Put the back rear edge in first. Then press down the Push mark on the front top of the black ink tank until it snaps into place with a click sound
Close the printer cover and you are done

Hope that makes sense...

Take Care,

Michael

    Hi Malatesta -

Sorry that the previous steps were not quite correct for your specific model of printer. I did some more research on removing/installing the ink tanks on the iP6310P Photo InkJet Printer.
Here are the exact steps from Canon's website for your specific printer...

How to remove the ink cartridges

    1. Confirm that the printer is powered on.
    2. Open the card slot cover and then the front cover. The ink cartridge holder moves to the replacement position.
    3. Remove the ink cartridges

How to replace / install the ink cartridges
(Note: If replacing a cartridge , remove the empty cartridge(s) before proceeding)

    1. Confirm that the printer is powered on.
    2. Open the card slot cover and then the front cover. The ink cartridge holder moves to the replacement position.
    3. Take out a new cartridge from its casing and gently remove the orange protective tape in the direction of the arrow.
    4. Insert the ink cartridge into the ink cartridge holder.

    Color: the left slot
    Photo: the right slot
Note: Push up the cartridge until it clicks into place.

    5. Confirm that the ink cartridges are installed properly.
    6. Close the front cover. Wait until the preparatory operation is complete; it takes about one to two minutes.

    Hope that helps...

    Take care,

    Michael

Canon iP6310D does not print text in black

1 reason for this may be that there is no ink in the cartridge
2)the inkhole is blocked

You may need to do a clean and nozzle check till the ink runs and it prints the check pattern using black. or replace the cartridge

Can i use pg-40 cartridge in my printer

No, you can't. I have the same printer and tried to save a buck at Costco, where they sell a 41 and two 40's in bulk. However, the 40 wouldn't fit into the slot because the ridges are slightly different. Several online print websites list the 40 as being compatible, but it would fit on my iP6310D.
Take the 40 back and go somewhere that sells both the 41 and the 40.

Anyone who wants to buy 1 opened (but unused) and 1 unopened 40-ink cartridge, please email mjc_co@yahoo.com and I can either sell directly to you or put them on ebay. Thanks!
