i had this printer from my mate from the office.
i got it home and it says " communication error" and no go.

This means that the interface type settings are incorrect in the Printer Menu and might be due to trying to use half duplex comms instead of full duplex, you are trying to use TCP/IP when the printer has this option turned off. It could even be as simple as something wrong with the interface cable being used or a mismatch in USB1.1 to V2.
