Pioneer SD-P6091K problem with turning it on

I'm having same problem as the following and i need a solution for this. I don't think i can repair it by myself so any suggestions for how i can get it repaired? I am helping a friend fix his Pioneer 60" Projection tv that just decided to cutoff during viewing, then he unplugged and reset the tv, it came back on then went off during viewing again. Now it will not come on! You hear power come to the PS board and you get the red standby light but nothing else. I can't find a schematic and I have heard varying opinions on Convergiance Amplifiers or Flyback or the entire high voltage board needing to be replaced. I would appreciate any ideas or at least where yall think I should start in trouble-shooting this problem. Thanks!

Re: Pioneer SD-P6091K problem with turning it on

Is this set several years old, and has it been good till now? There is one on the internet, 8 years old for sale with the same symptoms as your friends. There is an internet site ` Presumably you have already looked with the back off. Make sure there is not a build up of dust, which will cause overheating. If it has a 150 watt UHP lamp, or similar,(expensive!) it may need replacing. The lamp must be cooled by a fan, so make sure this is srill working. There should be a thermal cutout which automatically resets.

Manual for pioneer SD-643HD5

If you were to log on to the manufacturer's web site, I think you will be pleasantly surprised as usually one is able to download, by model number, Customer Instruction Manuals, list of Dealers for spare part supplies and Driver downloads as required.

Just Google the manufacturer's name and follow the links. Make certain you are directed to the manufacturer's web site as some search engines direct you to other sites and they charge for the information that is normally free of charge.

I hope this helps.

Convergence board cracked?

Once the board is cracked it is no longer repairable (even if it's a tiny crack that may not appear to interrupt any connections), and you would have to replace the complete board. Any attempt to repair or continue using a cracked board may cause more damage to the entire unit. You can find a replacement digital convergence board for a model # SD-643HD5 from this major Pioneer parts distributor at the following link:

Pioneer SD-P6091 Projection TV - TV turns off by itself

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

Colors not aligned

This is a problem with the convergence circuit. If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on the convergence ICs first. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. These are large black ICs attached to a heat sink and will be marked STKxxx. These should be readily available for about $25 each. There are 2 of them.

This fault happens with just about any tube type projection set. The convergence IC's simply need to be replaced. They are two black, 2"X3", stand up ICs that will start with the letters STK on the surface of them and are mounted up against a large metal heatsink. If you have the soldering skills this should not be so hard for you to do, but please if you do not have the skills or experience to replace these IC's call in a pro to assist you with this repair. Good Luck
