Philips TV Model# PL9125 C221

I recently bought the above referenced TV used. When I tried to go through the channels it went from channel 37 to 125 and everything in between produces a message "channel not available." I have cable with a lot of channels in between, but can not figure out how to re-program the t.v. with it's VERY remedial remote control? Is there any hope????

I have the same problem with another model of a Phillips TV. I got it used, I don't have the original remote control, I'm using a universal remote control with it. The model I have is a Phillips PC017 C121

SOURCE: Cannot set Cable Default Channel

I believe you are getting mixed up between channels and programs. Normally program 00 is used for VHS as it has slightly different parameters for colour and brightness. If the TV has about 39 or more programs which can be programmed in from the on screen menu, try using program 20 for the video and 30 for the cable. For this to work you must do the on screen frequency scanning from channels 22 to 69 (UK) and select VCR, CATV, VHF, UHF, etc. I have used program 00 and 20 for two VHS recorders, working on channel 33 and 35 for example, but you must tune them to 33 and 35 on the `Tune' screwdriver hole by the aerial input sockets of the recorders. I expect if your cable unit plugs into your aerial socket of the TV that it has an adjustment for what channel it is on. The TV on screen menu may be different in some countries, so it would help if I knew where you are.

SOURCE: my philips 25ts56 c221 will not come one.

You and many others i have a philips 28inch and it seems that a common problem is when they try to turn on it has a surge that then sends it back to standby if this the problem then you will expert help cos the backs got to come off and some componets changed but you dont say if you are ok to do this yourself?  Maybe the fuse inside the set or maybe there is a wire come loose in the plug or in the set. If you are not up to working on the internals then take to tv repair shop!!

Unable to select channels using the unit

First, test to make sure the Philips remote is working by trying to play a dvd. If the remote control is working, then either A) your TV is set to the wrong channel, or B) you have not selected the correct source on the Philips remote.

Look at how the cables run from the back of the Philips to the TV. In the back of your TV, the slot that the cables are plugged in to is usually labelled "AV1, "AV2, "Video 1", "Input 1" or something like that. Change the television to the appropriate input/source channel.

Press the Source button on the Philips remote and make sure it says E1 or whatever the appropriate source is.

Then try changing channels using the Philips remote.

This does not exhaust every possibility, but you must check the above first to see if anything else might be wrong. If the above does not work, then I would double-check to make sure the cable/satellite box is connected to the Philips correctly.

Finding Recording/Playing Channel on TV

Make sure there is a yellow video cable (or one of the other types of video cable) running from the Philips to your Panasonic. Make note of how the TV labels that source - Video 1, Video 2, Component 1, etc. Use the TV/Video button on your Panasonic to change the TV to the appropriate input channel - Video 1 or 2 if you used a yellow video cable, Component 1 or 2 if you used a red/green/blue cable, etc. Now, make sure that the Philips is in Disc mode by pressing the Disc button on the Philips remote. You should now have picture.

Nhens convertor box www.dsconter.com

Posting regarding the NHENS converter in January 2009. Bought it at Radio Shaft and it works -- feeding an old Panasonic b/w TV on channel 3. Live within 25 miles of the Empire State Building and the converter has managed to pick up and lock up on all NYC signals but channel 13. Also brings in channel 41 (licenced to NJ) and its subchannels plus the nearby channel 58 and its NJN-2 subchannel. Antenna is an amplified indoor rabbit ears with a loop also from Radio Shaft perched atop a kitchen cupboard on the 2nd floor of our house. Apparently, NHENS managed to correct the above referenced problems.
