Hi my dell inspiron 530 computer recently can't play disc ,so like most people i checked for solutions for this problem ,non of them worked which got me furious until i found out that my Region fo

To change the Region code on your DVD player, open Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device manager, and click on DVD/CD ROM drives, then right click on the DVD drive and click Properties then click on DVD Region.
You can enter a new region and it also shows you how many changes have been made.
NOTE you can make only 4 changes and the player will lock permanently on the 4th change.
If you want to play DVDs from any region you maybe able to upgrade the firmware to make it region free BUT if you make a mistake or installed the wrong firmware the player will be a piece of junk.
The best solution to make the player region free is to install a piece of software (Passkey for DVD) that allows you to play DVDs from any region and Passkey for Blu-ray that allows you to play Blu-rays from any region. There are several available on the Internet but my favourite is DVD-Region Free From: -

I see no evidence of a place in which to insert a cd to copy/burn in my new inspiron 580

According to dells, admittedly unhelpful store. The optical drive is an optional extra... Unfortunately this isn't of much use to you, if there's really no drive in the machine you'll ahve to either try and return it, or purchase one.

If you decided to purchase one you could go for an internal or external drive. An internal one would be slightly cheaper, however you'd have to install it yourself.

There are some pretty cheap options on ebuyer.

Need to install cd but my laptop has no cd romm

You can either get an external optical drive (USB is the most common) or check if the files are available at a web site. (For hardware drivers, often it is easier to get the drivers by going to the manufacturer's site and downloading the files via your internet connection. However, you will not get any third-pary software with the download.)

Prices for external drives range from $25 up depending on the type of drive. Some use external power adapters; others are powered by the USB itself (usually takes two USB ports). Some are read-only drives; others are burners. For a variety of models, see http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=Property&Subcategory=420&Description=&Type=&N=100007595&IsNodeId=1&srchInDesc=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice= .

I hope this helps.

(there are also USB to IDE/SATA drive adapters that can make an internal optical drive into an external drive for a temporary solution if you have a spare drive.)

Hi i want to instoal software but i have laptop windows vista so how to instoal

It depends on the laptop and the software. If the laptop does not have an optical drive, either download the software (many companies will let you buy the software as a download with an extra fee for either a CD/DVD sent in addition or an "download again if needed") or get an external optical drive (USB). Some of these drives use an external power brick; others are powered by USB and take 2 USB ports. The prices for the USB powered optical drives is ~$50.

If you downloaded the software, unzip the file(s) if needed then right click on the installer and select Run As Administrator. (With some software, do not let the program run when the install is finished. It can get locked to always launch the UAC to check if you are the administator.) With the external optical drive, you would install the software as you do with an internal optical drive (either auto-run or manually access the drive and find the executable file).

I hope this helps.

I'm trying to find a dvd drive for my MPC

May I suggest an alternative?
Buy an external enclosure, and install the DVD R/W drive of your choice. The external enclosure just plugs into any available USB port, on your computer.

This is an example of an external enclosure for a IDE optical drive, (IDE is also known as PATA. This is to help differentiate it from SATA.
Parallel ATA. Serial ATA),

This is an example of an external enclosure for a SATA optical drive,

An example of an IDE optical drive unit, that I have used for 3 years with no problem, and have installed the same unit in a clients computer.
4 years, and all is well.

Actually a slightly older model version, but this one is comparable.

Info about the LightScribe Technology,
(You have to use LightScribe disks made by HP. Slightly higher in cost than non-LightScribe one's)

Dvd burner is not working

Is it the burner that is not working or it is the software?

Try one of these free burners to test the drive http://tinyurl.com/ledqnu

If it is the burner that is not working you probably need to replace the drive as there are usually no serviceable parts in a DVD drive.

It sounds as if the drive itself is going bad. You may want to consider replacing it.

Hi! I have changed my DVD region code 4 times already (Powerbook 12" G4) I am in America at the moment and I would like to watch region 1 DVD's for a couple of months. Is there any way of just...

Yes there is a solution (or several in reality).

Do a Google search using the following string:

(Brand name) (Model number) +"region free"

Yes that is "+"region free"", you need the plus symbol (no space) Quote symbol (the words) region free and a last Quote symbol.

This should bring up either Firmware solutions where you download and install a new version of your Firmware, or will offer the Codes to be entered (and how to do this) to make your unit Region Free. The latter will probably be found in forums, so do not skip over these.

Good luck.
