To change the Boot order, you'll have to get into the BIOS.
If you are not competent to do this, seek advice.

My GT5674 does not want to turn on

Possible bad power supply. Either purchase a new one, or take it to a local computer repair shop and have them test your old one for you. If that does not fix the problem, the possible bad RAM, motherboard, CPU, power switch.

Hook up Memorex MVD4544 DVD/VCR combo

ok on the back of the dvd player look for the yellow red and white plugs you should have gotten a cable with yellow white and red plugs match the colors from the dvd player to the colors on the back of the tv labeled VIDEO 1 then plug the power in and tune the tv to video 1

Error message: Can not record on this disk???

In many devices, DVD-R and/or DVD-RW discs do not work. You must use DVD+R or DVD+RW discs. Good luck!

I remeber that feeling ... Here's the link to gateways' manuals for your computer..I would download all three of them , make sure you download them to your desktop so you can find them easy. you may also need to install adobe reader (free) to veiw these. There is a link to download the reader right below the manual downloads.
