check local small engine stores bit if not more than likely you boke the crank key under the engine they are aluminum so they brake easy if to much pressure or you broke the spider gears in the shaft

Go to this website and type in horse for your model number and you should be able to find a parts break down for your tiller. If the serial number is 874639 it was made in 3/88 and will be a four speed PTO model.
I find a lot of parts on Ebay for these tillers, your can order parts through MTD but they will be a little pricey. MTD aquired Troy Bilt out of bankruptcy in 2001 and still carries parts for the tillers.

I was going to cut some brackets of of steel and drill holes where the threads are. No reason why it's threaded, as there is enough room for nuts and lock washers on the backside.
