SOURCE: antenna on radio broke

Radio Shack can get you an antenna, or a long wire (or wire coat hanger actually works too)

SOURCE: My Tivoli Pal radio casing has a sticky feel on

Rubberized coatings or cases when exposed to handcremes.. suntan lotions.. or bug repellents will breakdown and get become sticky.. certain environmental situations can also cause the rubber either to breakdown and either get sticky.. or get hard and brittle..

Sounds like the radio has been handled or exposed to some type of petroleum based product as I mentioned in the first line... even sitting near certain uncapped distillates can result in this problem.

There is a product in the boating world called Speed Clean Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner that may solve your problem.. if succesful.. remember to apply some type of protectant afterwards.. most Boat dealers or marine and fishermen supply stores should carry this product.

The only other solution is to remove as much of the sticky coating with an ammonia based product and recover.

Good Luck

Tivoli PAL volume problems

I posted this tip elsewhere but the FixYa site is, shall we say, challenging.
After years of use my Tivoli PAL started having volume problems. The audio began popping, volume changed erratically, static, booming, almost feedback sounds.
In my case, and others as well, I've gleaned, the problem was the volume potentiometer. Apparently it oxidizes over time and the poor electrical contact is the reason for the erractic audio.
I'm not an electrical repair kind of guy, so this isn't pretty.
The volume and frequency controllers are secured to the knobs with metal collars. I pried the collars loose and got the horizontal board off, I sprayed Stabilant 22 into the volume pot. There are other electrical contact cleaners as well.
Put it all back together. Let the flud dry. Good as new.
Good luck.

Radio will not play when turned on unplugged, but will play via battery when plugged in to powerpack,, turned on, then unplugged.

I have the same problem with 2 Pal radio, I'm trying to find a solution, i think the trouble is in the switch to turn it on/off which has a bad electrical contact, I will tell you if I can find a solution. Phil

Radio operates when plugged into wall outlet. Can I replace the battery and what kind?

You could probally change the battery, you would need to open the unit and get the battery number. Call Pro Line Music whit the volts and amps and physical size of the battery

Tivoli Radio,

Does your radio have a sleep button or option? If so, check to make sure that you did not set it on accident or with out knowing. Or if it has batteries, check them to make sure they aren't dead or mixed with old or new.
