Enter the fraction for example: enter 8/12.
The answer will be .666666
Then click Math (which is located under the Alpha button).
Click the ->Frac button (the first one).
It should come up as Ans->Frac.
Click Enter.
It should now read 2/3 which is 8/12 reduced.
Note: I have a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, and the TI-84 Plus might not have this function, but that is how I do it on my TI-84 Plus Silver Edition

Hello,
When the TI83PLUS/TI84PLUS converts a decimal number into a fraction it is always in its simplest (reduced form). You can also have a simple fraction without passing by a decimal number representation. Here how to do it.
Exemple: the fraction 27/48 can be simplified by dividing both elements by 3.
You enter 27/48 [MATH][1:->Frac] [ENTER] ; display shows 9/16
Hope it helps

Texas Instrument has released a major update to the TI84PLUS/SE. This update numbered 2.53MP introduces Math Print that displays fractions as one sees them in textbooks. Installing it will allow the user to manipulate easily fractions (mixed numbers, improper fractions ) calculate logs in arbitrary bases, configure the calculator to convert automatically fractions to decimals, etc. It is WORTH installing.

In some cases, inputting the fraction and getting a decimal answer can work if the answer is simple enough. With i.e. 231/308, you get 0.75, which obviously is the same as 3/4. I cannot remember how to properly simplify fractions, though.

How can I simplify a fraction after adding two fractions?

Factor both the numerator and denominator, and then divide both the numerator and denominator by the greatest common factor.

For example, 1/3 + 1/6 = 2/6 + 1/6 = 3/6. We have to simplify 3/6. The factors of 3 are 3 and 1. The factors of 6 and 1, 2, 3, and 6. The greatest common factor is 3. Dividing the numerator and denominator by 3 results in 1/2.

Good luck.

How do i simplify ratios using casio scientific calculator fx-991ms

If you enter the ratios using the fraction entry key ( [a b/c] the results will be displayed as fractions. And when the calculator displays fractions they are always in their reduced form.
In general, when you are manipulating fractions ( Pi/2 is no a fraction even if you write it as one) you can try to simplify them by looking for the greatest common factor (GCF) of the numerator and denominator. When you simplify by the GCF the fraction that is left is in its reduced form.

My TI 84 won't convert my imaginary numbers to fractions. I typed in 1/(1+i) and it won't convert the answer to fraction form. It keeps saying Error Data Type

The TI-84 works with real fractions. It will not convert complex numbers to fractions.

You can convert the real and imaginary components to fractions separately. For your example, 1/(1+i) is .5-.5i. Converting .5 and -.5 to fractions, you get 1/2 + (1/2)i.

I don't know how to simplify fractions on this calculator.

You do not simplify fractions on the calculator. If the calculator is able to display fraction results, be sure that the form it gives you is the simplest. If the fraction is a mixed one there is usually a key to switch from mixed to improper, and from improper to mixed the keys are [a b/c] and [d/c]

How can I type in a radical expression and simplify it in radical form?

Sorry to disappoint you. You can enter a radical by making use of the square root or the universal power [^] with fractionary exponent, but once you press the [ENTER] key, your expression is calculated and displayed as a decimal number.
By updating the OS to version 2.53MP, you will be able to manipulate fractions more easily than your current OS version, but no facility is provided for radicals.
