Question about Gitzo Mountaineer Mk2 G1228G Tripod

1 Answer

Central shaft stripped out

The central shaft on my Gitzo 1228 carbon fiber tripod is stripped out from 10 years of use. Anywhere I can get a replacement? I could cut it shorter and re-thread it, but would lose about 1" of of the 12" length, which is skimpy as it is. Thanks. Delevan

I just got replacement leg feet from <> for my G2258 tripod. Look up part #D1220.25JP. They also list it as Gitzo "GILF" in their inventory. They are the exact replacement part for your tripod. Hope this helps,

The central post came out of the tripod and I can't seem to get it back in?

Try rolling the lever backwards at the same time you insert the post . Is there a loose screw in the vertical rod preventing the reassembly? Try oiling the mechanism it may help.

As I suspected the Gitzo 5541LS replaces both the GT5540LS and the G1548 tripod. Currently, there is an ongoing rebate until 06/30/2010.
Hope this helps. Andrew Don't forget to vote.

I need a new leg section for one of the legs on the G1257 tripod. The section I need is the lower section of the 3 in the leg. Do you have 1 in stock?

In the US, I think Bogen is the official distributor of the Gitzo products.

Pin fell back inside the central shaft.

Use a good strong magnet from the outside while holding it upside down. Move the magnet around the shaft as if going through a maze that you can't see- untill it finds the exit path out! Take an old hard drive apart and use the magnets they have-they're very powerful.

Gitzo off centre ball head

Go to big lots or other discount house (I went to sears and spent $4.00) and buy the cheapest mini tripod you can find and scarf the screw/knob off that. That is what I did.
