Question about Samsung HCM4215W 42" Rear Projection Television
When I turn on my samsung hlp5063wx, an onscreen message indicates that I should: check fan 1 2 3. The message stays on for about 30 seconds and then the tv shuts down. I recently replaced the color wheel. Is this problem repairable by a consumer with some electronic knowledge?
i highly doubt all 3 fans went out at the same exact time! i have the same error message occasionally but now all i do is remove the lower back cover,on the middle left there is a connection that is about 12 inches from the bottom. i just toggle the connection and voila! it works fine for another month or so.
im starting to think that connection has to do with supplying power to the fans etc.
i originally thought it was the fan but it seems impossible to me now that it could be
samsung needs to replace all the bad dlps theyve produced i mean cmon this is america where its goverment for the people,right?
i find this forum very helpful but wish there were less questions and more answers to them.
if that doesnt fix it for you try cleaning it with a vacuum brush.
if that doesnt work just start bugging the hell out of samsung until they replace it.

Quite possibly; the set apparently is sensing the operation of the cooling fan and that is probably defective.
These sets generate a great deal of heat in specific areas and with no fan, they would quickly fail from heat alone.
You should be able to spot the likely place for the fan if you remove the lower back panel of the set. If is probably a 'commodity' fan that is available from multiple sources; I wouldn't go to Samsung first since they will mark it up a bunch.
If you can gain access to the fan and it isn't just being impeded by an accumulation of dust, get the make and model number of the fan from the label (almost always present) and do a search on the information you find.
