Whirlpool side by side ice in door, Ice maker not dispensing ice
Ice maker has ice to be dumped but won't dump. I had the same problem before, tech told me that the gear breaks all the time. Looked simple enough to replace and certainly not worth the $132 I was charged for labor. Looking for instruction on how to replace the gear and how to prevent this from happening again?

Make sure the arm is down on the ice maker. There is a heating element that warms the ice tray slightly so it can break the ice loose and dump. If the element is bad it would be best to buy a new ice maker. They run from 68 dollars and up. good luck
Pout about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it dumps but does not refill , replace the water inlet valve ( the piece the wall water line connects to behind the refrig ) . Also check the tube which fills the ice maker as it will freeze up , not letting water go into the ice maker . This is also caused by a bad water valve .
If the ice maker does not dump the water poured into it , replace the ice maker .
Also , check that the coils are clean under the front of the refrig , as this will cause slow ice production and can cause the ice maker not to dump due to too warm of temperature . Ice maker has to be 5 degrees to operate .
THE WATER VALVE IN THE BACK IS A TWO PART SYSTEM. EVEN THOUGH YOU GET WATER FROM THE DOOR THE ICE MAKER SIDE OF THE VALVE COULD BE BAD. CHANGE VALVE. B4 YOU SPEND THAT KINDA MONEY--DO A SELF CHECK FIRST--POUR WATER IN THE ICE CUBE TRAY. IF IT FREEZES AND DUMPS THEN CHANGE THEWATER VALVE. IF IT FREEZES BUT DONT DUMP CHANGE THE ICE MAKER.
Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it freezes and dumps , but does not refill with water , replace the water valve . If it does not dump , and the cubes stay in the ice maker , replace the ice maker . First , make sure the coils are clean under the front of the refrig , because , the ice maker has to be 5 degrees to be able to dump . Dirty coils can raise the temp , to 6 degrees and even higher .
Tammi, you first want to check to make sure the water inlet tube to the icemaker is not frozen shut. Next, get yourself a jumper wire about 4 inches long with the ends stripped exposing the wire on each end. Pull off the ice maker cover, it will pull right off. Now you are looking at the module. On the module, left side, you will see two test points marked V and L. Insert one end of the jumper wire into V and the other marked L. You are now sending 120 volts to the water valve and water should fill the ice maker providing the inlet tube is not frozen over. If it doesn't fill, you either have a bad water valve or module itself. Also check to see if the clips that hold the center gear on the module are not broken. Catriver..post back.
