    Hello,
I had the same problem on one of my buddies' tv and I installed the new convergence Ic's but the issue is still there. The autofocus will not work either. I heard there is a pico fuse that also fails. Have you heard of this, and do you know the location of the fuse?

Looks like it's made for 3d and adjusting voltage in front panel didn't work.

It calls convergence problem due to failure of convergence output ICs.
If you want to repair it at your own, let me know if you have basic electronics knowledge and little experience to guide you more.

    OK, here we go...
You need to replace IC8001 & IC8002 mounted Heat-Sink on D Board of TV.
Below exploded view shows where is D Board in TV.

IC8001 & IC8002 has same part number as follows...

    8-749-019-08 IC STK392-560

Above ICs are available in Parts Store and TV needs 2 pieces.

Please becarefull while working in projection TV as has high voltage inside and electric shock risk is always there. You must know good solder work to remove and install convergence ICs.
Need further help, let me know please.
    Good Luck.

If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem.
If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured.
You can search google for parts or you can get the parts with repair instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com

I have a 57" sony kp-57ws500 rear projection t.v.

the tv he mentioned is not plasma or LCD, it's rear projection with tubes.

brad, you'll have to take off the front panel. there are two phillips head screws behind two small round plastic covers, one at each end of the bottom of the speaker covers. remove those, lift the cover slightly, then pull down. be careful because the plugs for the front panel controls don't have much slack. unplug those and set the cover aside.

there is a rectangular cover to the tubes and focus panel. remove that, set it aside and you'll have access to the focus and alignment controls. the white markings on the knobs are factory reference marks. IIRC, the top is the focus and the bottom is the alignment. use a flashlight to check because it's marked.

make the adjustment as necessary to get a clear picture. =)

Sony KP-57WS500 convergence drift

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2

Another common problem is dull or washed out video.
Your TV may have one or more of the following symptoms....
  • Dull looking picture
  • White looking picture
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix here

Sony 57 inch

Hello

there is two STK packs in your TV, this is what controls your convergence,it should be two big IC on big heatsink and number should start with STK- ______,just replace these STK packs and you can order these from matelectronics.com. Parts should be somewhere around $30 and also make sure that resistors around stk packs don't look like they been hot if they look like they been hot just replace them too, and your TV will be working fine.

Thankyou
