GPU upgrade on Epox MF570 Sli

I think you helped me in the past with some questions about this board, so I'll try hitting you up again!

Can I use a PCIe 2 GPU on this board? From what I've read I should be able to, but I don't want to shell out $160 only to find out I have to upgrade again to a new board.

Currently have a x1800GTO2 and I'm looking at moving to an x4850.

I have to upgrade RAM (jumping to 4Gb - I guess will only look like 3.2 or something to XP but one of these days maybe I'll move to Vista) and harddrive so I figured I'd look at GPUs also.

Just wondering if you think it will be ok

appreciate any thoughts.

As far as I can tell (from Epox), it looks as though both PCIe slots on your motherboard are PCIe version 1.1, not the new version 2.0. Unfortunately, version 2.0 Graphics Cards will not fit into a 1.1 slot (although a 1.1 card will fit into the newer 2.0 slot).

You might just try going with dual GPU's, and use the SLI feature. It would certainly speed things up.

What part should i upgrade?

Most easily addressed upgrades would be an additional stick of RAM, increase from 4gb to 8gb, and a GPU with more on board memory 512 mb on GPU is low, just ensure your motherboard is compatible with whatever you choose to upgrade to.

Toshiba x205-sli1 how many video cards does it take?

In my mind it isn't correct.

SLI = Scalable Link Interface,

SLI means to have two, or more, graphics chipsets teaming up on the graphics task.

Two or more graphics chipsets used in an SLI -> CONFIGURATION.

Scroll down, read under -> Caveats

"In an SLI configuration, cards can be of mixed manufacturers, card model names, BIOS revisions or clock speeds.

However, they MUST be of the same GPU series (e.g. 8600, 8800) and GPU model name (e.g. GT, GTS, GTX).

There are rare exceptions for "mixed SLI" configurations on some cards that only have a matching core codename (e.g. G70, G73, G80, etc.), but this is otherwise not possible, and only happens when two matched cards differ only very slightly, -> an example being a -> differing amount of video memory <-, stream processors, or clockspeed.

In THIS case, the -> slower/lesser card <- becomes dominant, and the other card matches."

Meaning if one graphics card has 256MB of graphics memory, and the other graphics card has 512MB of graphics memory; it will operate at the SLOWER graphics card, graphics memory, rate.

In otherwords at the rate of the 256MB graphics memory, graphics card.

The LS-3443P has 512MB of graphics memory,

The LS-3449P has 256MB of graphics memory,

Why would a laptop manufacturer go to the trouble of using two MXM style of graphics cards; in an SLI configuration; and use one with 256MB of graphics memory, and one with 512MB of graphics memory; only to have the graphics run at 256MB?

Doesn't seem logical.

Logic TO ME dictates using two ALIKE graphics cards, (MXM)

For me I concur with your thinking, and believe the 256MB unit is wrong.

GeForce 8600M GT uses the Code Name G84, GPU,

Could I be wrong? YES.
It may be that the two ARE configured to run together, and have a total of 768MB graphics memory.

Again, though, To Me it doesn't follow the Scalable Link Interface, basic technology.

It MAY be that -> BOTH graphics cards need to have the top of the GPU, (Graphics Processing Unit, or simply - graphics chipset), cleaned; and new fresh Thermal Paste PROPERLY applied.

If a Thermal Pad is used, it is carefully peeled off, plus top of GPU, and copper Cooling Tube plate cleaned; and a new piece of Thermal Pad is used, PLUS apply a sparingly amount of new, fresh Thermal Paste.

Also using Anti-Static Precautions, (For everything, of course. Standard procedure), I would use a pencil eraser, and clean the gold plated contact pins of the MXM graphics cards; on BOTH sides. Use compressed air for computers, in the MXM graphics card's slots; on the motherboard.

IF one MXM graphics card is bad, you should be able to remove it, and just use the good one.

Perhaps this was a problem in the past; and whoever had it could only afford the 256MB LS-3449P.

In searching I found one place that wanted $549.00 for the LS-3443P!

Just my thoughts, Michael.

Can i add 2 graphics card in asus P5G41C-M LX ? now i have nvidia GTS 450 graphics card.. plz help.....

Hello there,
*********** board has an Integrated Intel GMA X4500 graphics, maximum shared memory of 1G, it should be automatically disabled if the pcie slot detects a video card but some mother board embedded gpu runs with the pcie card unless disabled in the bios.
Do you have plans on running a SLI (Scalable Link Interface) linking two or more gpu to produce a single output on *********** board. why SLI? because you already hae a GTS 450 GPU but you cant do this configuration because *********** board has a single pcie slot.
If you have plans on running a pci gpu with your GTS 450 it should, but if you encounter any problem try manually assigning IRQ's and resources through the BIOS? I don't have this specific board.

Hopefully this information helps.
Thanks you for using FixYa.

Installed a new processor and now it wont work

Is that an upgraded processor? If it is, then somehow, it could be its configuration problem with the older processor on software side. Your previous installation of OS remember its past processor and reporting error.

You can try fresh installation. Just for the input.
