thanks for your reply. i've gone on device manager, tried to update the drivers but it says that the most up to date drivers are already installed, it also says that the device is working properly. the device is a "matshita dvd-ram uj850s ata device"..i googled this in hope of any forums that could help or any drivers that i could download. it was the original CD drive that came with the Philips X59, i'm not confident of installing my own drives, one forum suggested there may be a problem with the registry? which i'm not very knowledgable on.

It can still be a bad drive even if it is detected. Try installing another one.

I opened the asus dvd to clean it and when i reassembled it , it doesnt turn on and there is no power, the lamp is dead

Hi. Usually if this is the issue you can try this steps. 1. Make sure that you put the cable back on the way it was before. 2.When you turn the computer Go to Bios Set up F2 and check on the boot sequence if the DVD drive is detected . 3. Try to press the Eject button on the DVD while your still on the F2 option or BIOS. 4. If the DVD is not detected and won't eject on the BIOS and even if you re-seat again the cable it means that the DVD drive is already dead...

Why my dvd /cd not work properly , in hardware it show the it is woorking properly , but if i put any cd and insert it then after its not read the data in cd

Does the led on the dvd/cd drive flash after you've put in a disk? Go into "My Computer" and check that the drive is indicated there. If it isn't, then you would need to check the drive connector inside the computer to make sure it is connected properly and that it is not loose. If the drive is indicated in my computer, try another disk, perhaps a music cd, and see if the drive reads the disk. If it does, that tells you that you may have some defective disks. If the drive is detected in my computer, and no disks are read by the drive, then I would assume the drive is defective and replace it. Good luck!

Put dvd in and it makes clicking noise and doesn't detect it.

The Clicking sound happens, when the lens which reads the cd's,dvd's move off from its original position, this happens when the particular equipment is moved or pushed. In some rare cases, when you insert a very scratched cd, dvd. This can be solved by the particular tv company technicians, or else your warranty will be void.

Try checking whether the lens works perfectly, by playing different kinds of content ( audio cd, mp3, dvd ) etc... If any works, then your lens is working perfect. Later, try cleaning the lens using the " cd lens cleaner kit ". It will be available in any computer accessories related shop.

Thank You.

My computer cannot detect cd/dvd inserted

Right-click on my computer, go to 'Manage'. It opens a window, click on 'Device Manager' on the left. On the right, click on 'DVD/CD-ROM Drives'. If it shows your DVD drive, then right-click on it and select 'Uninstall'. Once it has uninstalled, Right-click on your computer name(near the top on the right, above the word 'Computer') and select "Scan for hardware changes". It will re-detect your CD/DVD drive and re-install it. If it cannot find your DVD drive, then you will need to purchase a new one. If it still does not read CD's then try updating the firmware.

Also try physically re-seating the drive by taking it out and putting it back in the PC.

Laptop CD/DVD drive won't detect CDs but will detect DVDs

sure..go to my computer..and see what disks are there?

if there are none, go to control panel, system device manager, and look at dvd drives and see that there is no marks on it(meaning that it's installed)

if not, remove that drive, click on actions/scan for hardware change, and go

you may need the install vista disk to make that happen, but that's unusual.

check for printer drivers here

Can't READ or PLAY CD/DVD in DVD drive

Many laptops allow you to detach the CD/DVD drive - if this is the case for your laptop, perhaps it is slightly loose, or been removed by Safely Remove Hardware. You could try physically taking the drive out, and putting it back in, and that might do the trick.
