It sounds like you broke the backlight in the display. You will need to replace the LCD screen.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

Hi..I have a lenovo monitor, it powers up when i switch on but the lenovo logo is barely visible. then it hibernates. what could be the problem, nothing else is visible

The inverter board has developed a dry or dropped joint.
The inverter controls the backlight that lights up the display.
Take the monitor to a reputable computer repair store and they will be able to repair the inverter for you at a small cost.

No Display- display is not lit

It is probably the inverter board. In most laptops this is a separate board, very small and probably pretty inexpensive if you can find it. I dont service acer's but several other brands and that is a typical problem. If you can find one, and you can see how to open the lcd case, you can probably replace it yourself. In most cases it is pretty simple. I am new to using this site and unsure if its possible, but if you can contact me through the website, I could probably walk you through it.

I have an Evesham Explorer A5500 notebook Laptop and earlier when i was usuing it the screen became covered in white lines i rebooted to try and fix the problem but now when i turn on my laptop the screen...

Take a bright light and shine it on the screen when it is on. Can you barely see any display, but really dark? If so, the lamp or the lamp inverter has failed (some laptops use LEDs instead of CCFL lamps and has no inverter either).

Just hooking up to another display doesn't necessary tell you anything if it doesn't show anything. As sometimes you have to change a settings in the BIOS, use the Fn key plus another key that looks like a monitor, or change it through a display menu on the screen.

LCD screen not lighting

It sounds like the Backlight for your laptop gave out.

Heres a simple test to see if THAT is the case

Power it up while under a bright light 100W or better possibly even sunlight on a sunny day. Move the screen at varying angle to the light. If you can see what appears to be a "Shadowy" image of your desktop then YES indeed your backlight went out.

Your backlight should be replaced by an experienced service tech. Unless you are comfortable with working with high voltage electronics (The backlight has a charge capacitor) that can injure you if you are not careful.

There is a VGA connector on the back of your laptop. You can plug in a monitor to that so you may use your laptop. (Until you can get it fixed) Just plug in the monitor and press <Fn> and <F5> to switch to the external display

Hope this helps

Laptop screen can be barely seen. Model 259II1

If it's more than 3 years old, it might need a new "cold cathode fluorescent" tube.

If you have hands as steady as a surgeon, aren't afraid of high voltage or flying glass, and know how to solder, you might be able to purchase a lamp on digikey dot ca or dot com for fifteen bucks.

Right, it's a laptop...

The beeps are the results of a Power On Self Test (POST)
It could be main memory problem from the Beep code.
Disconnect it from the mains, take the battery out.
you'll find a small 'trapdoor' held in with a small screw.

Carefully remove this, you'll see a small pcb that's more chips than pcb.

Now you can see the main memory, it will have a connector on 1 edge and clips on opposite edges.

Important:- Ground yourself from static, i.e. don't stand on a carpet in your fave Nikes. If you don't have a static strap, or know what one is. Then a bare foot on a tiled or concrete surface is good.

1. flip the 2 clips with your thumbnails, and the module should pop out. lift carefully avoiding touching the bare connector.

2. check to see if there is any crud on the connector or removed card.

3. If clean, place card back into connector at a 30 degree angle rock down and up a couple of times, and then press home, the clips should click.

The card will stay put without the cover on. But I suggest you replace the cover.

Put battery back in and try it again.

With any luck it was just a bad connection on the ram card.
