Question about Televison & Video
I bought this TV in January 2003 and it is about 5 years old. One day when I tried to turn the TV on using remote nothing happened. I unplugged from the wall outlet and plugged it back again; the power light comes and gets shut down again. I called technician and when he opened the back of the TV and tapped on all the parts, TV came back again. Within two days same problem occurred. Technician told me that he has to trouble shoot the board and will charge $350 plus parts to remove the Board and take it to his shop. I checked with another shop and the Deflection board and power supply board costs around 200 and 350 each. Is it worth trouble shooting the situation or is this a known problem like changing a IC? If I can by these boards, it might be cheaper to replace the boards ( less labor ). I don't want to spend $800 on this TV. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I was wondering whether its worth changing the boards or to replace parts on the existing board. When TV powers up, I don't have any issue with the convergence. So I am thinking it may be power supply board. Do you think there is any problem with the deflection board. Is this board involved in supplying horizontal ( high voltage ). Do you think its better to change both boards. Any suggestions.

Why should you spend 800$ when the tech told you 350. And yes, do what he said to you. 350 is a good price for what involve this repair. If you want to replace by yourself the 2 boards...remember the eeprom is on the signal board and you have to redo all geometry and convergence adjustments. Even for an experienced tech this is a 3 hours job and you have to be very good.
