Question about Philips Magnavox Learning Universal Remote

Close Caption I have a model 313912875581 remote for an older tv and was wondering how to turn the close caption function on . The tv set is a 27" smart plus series and the remote is the original one.

I pushed the cc button, but all that comes up on the screen is a list of items offered and no way to scroll up to the closed capton icon. The list reads:

    Features

    Closed Caption

    Caption Mode CC2

    Text Mode

There is a small square icon in front of each of these selections, but the button with the square on it is also the Surf key and the set goes into the surf mode when pushed.

    Thanks

Have yet to recieve any help in this matter. I tried the "CC" button before I contacted FixYa and was wondering if there is a series of buttons that need to be pushed? I have an elderly visitor coming next week and would like to get the Close Captioning fixed before they arrive.

    Thank you

Sir,

if your TV remote has a button marked CC or CCD or SUBTITLE press that button til the screen display reads "closed caption on" or something similar - if you get a black box on the screen without any print in it that means that the closed caption function is on but the show that you are watching is not broadcasting a closed caption [dxh]

thanks
good luck

Press the MENU button and then use arrow-up / arrow-down button to select the
    OPTION menu.
Press the arrow-forward button and then use arrow-up / arrow-down button to select Caption/Text.
Press the arrow-forward button and then use arrow-up / arrow-down button to select caption: CC1,
    CC2CC3CC4Text1Text2Text3, or Text4.
    • CAPTION
    The term for the words that scroll across the bottom of the TV screen;
usually the audio portion of the program provided for the hearing
    impaired.
    • TEXT
The term for the words that appear in a large black frame and almost
cover the entire screen; usually messages provided by the broadcaster.
Press EXIT button to return to TV viewing or press MENU button to
    return to the previous menu.

Then what is "greyed-out"? Do the arrow keys allow you into the test area when you press the arrow-forward?

go to Option Menu.. There you should have three sub menus pretaining to caption, "Caption", "Caption Text" and "Caption Option". First select "Caption" and make sure that it's set to "On". Then back out of that sub menu and select "Caption Text" and set it at "CC1" You probably won't have a "Caption Option", from the "Options" menu, until you've selected "Caption" to be on.

Close caption turns on and off by itself problem

Check the cable box to make sure the captions aren't truned on in the cable box.

If not -if it really is the Magnavox caption service- then -

This is assuming you have the original remote:
1 Press MENU to show the on-screen
menu.
2 Press VOL+ or VOL- until SET is highlighted.
3 Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to
highlight CLOSED CAPTION.
4 Press VOL+ or VOL-
to display the
CLOSED CAPTION menu.
5 Press CH+ or CH- to select the
closed caption you want (OFF, CC-1,
CC-2, or CC-MUTE).
CC-MUTE sets
the TV to show closed captions when
you press MUTE. The TV volume will be
disabled until you press MUTE again to
restore the sound.
6 Press VOL+ or VOL-
to confirm your
selection.
7 Press TV/AV/EXIT to remove the
menu.

Assuming whatever your TV receiving from has close caption. (Not all TV channel has close caption) Solution 1) Get a new universal remote that support your model and has close caption button. Once you program in the code for your TV model and it works then all button should also programmed including th close caption button. Solution 2) Search online for the owner manual and read see how to turn it on using buttons on TV (if possible). Solution 3) Get new TV with close caption. (If you have an old old TV with bad and huge pixels then this solution is the best. Your eyes will thank you.)
