Installing the external CD Player...
You will go and start up and install Windows XP by doing he following:
Plug in your external CD drive, and let windows install it into the system...
Once the CD is ready to go, shut down the computer.
You will first need to format your hard drive, I will give you instructions on how to do that.
1...To format your hard drive and install XP:
To set you computer back to factory fresh settings you will need to format the hard drive and install the XP operating system and the drivers.
1.Format the hard drive: You do this by double left clicking on "My Computer",then double left click the main drive (normally C drive). When the window pops open, you will choose "Format" Keep in mind that once you format your hard drive you will loose all your files, programs, pictures, etc that you installed since the computer was new. So make your back up on a portable hard drive, thumb drive, etc.
2. Once the formatting of the hard drive is complete you will need to install the XP operating system along with the drivers. You will now insert the CD's into your external CD player starting with #1 first and continuing until all has been installed.
After all has been installed, shut your computer off and restart.
That will bring your computer back to Windows XP factory new condition as far as operating is concerned. Please take time to rate me
This will occur if the Windows files are Corrupted or Fragmented, the solution is to backup by logging in to Safe Mode. Please restart the computer and try pressing F8 Key to select Safe Mode. If the Safe Mode is working fine then please backup the data and Format the computer using the Window XP or the Operating System Disc which you have. If the Safe Mode is not working then use any Linux CD like Ubuntu (www.ubuntu.com) it's free! Then boot the CD to backup the data for any external Hard Drive or Pen Drive and format the Notebook using the appropriate Operating System Disc like Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7.
unless you wish to dual boot the WIndows versions ...
'you will need to place the windows XP CD, boot from this CD and format your Hard Disk and then install windows xp.
make sure you have the windows xp licence key as the WIndows vista licence is not valid for windows xp.
last but foremost .. I strongly suggest you download the three key drivers from your manufacturer for 1) Sound Card. 2) Video Card 3) Network Card and have them available after windows is installed.
As Windows does not detect all drivers for your computer.
Then install either your current preference of Antivirus software or use AVAST (www.avast.com) which is freely available.
check your vendors website to confirm that there is drivers for your make and model laptop or pc.
good luck ... hope this helps...
put in the windows 2000 or xp disk
98 is not supported by microsoft , youll have many problems online
but you need to format the hard drive , 20 gb is good
with the windows xp cd boot from it
you will see just one letter drive if more delete them and format just one drive, you can use the quick format , so the windows xp files will go on after that, but youll have 30 day trial
if you know any body who has a copy of xp then you can use their cd, but use your product key number that is on a sticker on the underside of your laptop, but if you had xp home dont use xp pro cd as it wont work when you input the product key.
This is quite legal as you purchase the XP licence number and not the cdrom so see if you can lend one from somebody.
