Question about Insignia Digital-to-Analog Converter for Analog TVs

Low Sound When watching channels from the tv I can only get low sound from the system. That includes voice and background. When watching videos I get my usual good sound. This is on my Magnavox Converter Box going to a Magnavox TV.

Walmart employees tell us that as the signal gets stronger we will get channel 8 and better volume. Thanks.

Low sound also. Troubleshooting guide in the instructions said to use channel 3 instead of channel 4 for the setup. Tried it and it didn't make any difference. Before the converter box I could set my sound at have to go up as high as 39-45 to get decent sound, and it's still not really loud...can hear it at least (if the furnace isn't running).

Low sound here also. Troubleshooting in the installation guide said to change from channel 4 to channel 3 in the initial set up. Tried that, didn't work. Before converter box I could set sound at 9-13 comfortably. After converter box have to go to 39-45 in order to hear it it...especially if the furnace is running.

Find out if there is a volume control for the converter box and adjust accordingly.

Hmmm, that sounds like the general thing to say from a store employee that could remedy most reception questions and problems. As for now, I'd look into the settings menu as well and see if there's a different setting to adjust the sound since sometimes if it's set as mono the sound is pretty low as opposed to stereo. The audio should be exceptionally good since it's a digital audio signal coming from the air into the box and normally much louder and stronger than what's from the TV tuner on an old CRT tube. Check the troubleshooting guide in the back of the instruction manual and if the machine was just bought try exchanging it for another brand. Just because your TV is one brand doesn't mean your converter box has to be the same one. Good luck.

I have a Panasonic surround sound system and when I play movies I get back round sound but when they speak can't hear them. And I can't figure out how to change it to stereo

The centre speaker is either switched off or two low. Check the connections. Panasonic are very good at providing free PDF of user manuals for there devices. Visit the website for them.

If you have a THX DVD movie it includes a system set up, so you can set the controls. It will put out test tones to each speaker, if your system doesn't have one, built in.

Uneven sound

With a Dolby 5.1 surround sound system, the level of each speaker is adjustable. Consult your owner's manual. It sounds like the center (voice) channel is set too low, or the left and right channels are set too high.

UBX Home Theater System

It sounds like a problem with your centre channel or speaker. The sound of Voices and on-screen, actions in the middle of the screen are played through the centre speaker. General sounds such as music in the background, off-screen events, etc. will be played through other speakers on a home theatre system. Check your connectors coming from your DVD player to your sound system. Are you using a single-cabled digital connector or one for every channel? Check your sound settings as well, i.e., Surround, AC3, Music, etc.

The background music of the dvd movie is playing but there is no sound of the people in the movie speaking. Is the set up setting wrong?

Yes, fortunately this is only a minor setting which needs to be set right. Although i have never worked on this unit before, all you need to do is to have a look on the remote itself.

The problem is that the player is set to play through the wrong channels. Hence, you can hear the background music and sound, but not the voices. This is because the voice is sent to a channel which does not exist.

On the remote there is usually a button saying channel or sound channel...Something in this line. This will enable you to cycle through the sound channels(2.0 ; 5.1 ; 7.1 etc)

If you cannot find this button on the remote, you will need to have a look around in the sound setting menu.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards

The voices on DVDs are too low and are drowned out

The centre channel normally has the voices - sounds like it:
  • isn't connected,
  • isn't working or
  • is turned down too far
  • or the system could be faulty

When watching a DVD, the surround sound plays all background music but the actors voices are not heard - can hear music and voices in 2 speaker only - TV programs play in 2, 3, and 5 speaker mode.

If there is nothing at all from the center channel while watching a DVD, first try resetting the system (unplug the power cord from the sub, and the DC power cord from the media center for 30+ seconds) If a reset doesn't help this, run the "adaptIQ" setup disc again. Honestly, this is a very odd problem for that system to have. (especially since we know the center speaker works for other sources) I hope this helps.

To everyone having sound trouble... there is a solution! First make sure your TV is OFF. Unplugg the 2 main cables going into the DVT 412 for 30 seconds. Then re-plugg them. Press down for a few seconds on all the BLACK tabs connecting the sound wires and release. Without a disc in the player... and the TV still OFF, turn the power on and immediatley hold the down the STOP button on the DVT412 for 5-10 seconds. Your picture, vocal and backround sound will return to normal. Feel free to make changes to the sound now! Happy tuning... GO STEELERS! LOL!

I'm not familiar with your system but generally, reducing the lows and highs will make the voice frequencies more prominent since they roughly between 300-3,000 Hertz.
Some systems have range/filter selections that allow you to choose between voice and several music types.
