Question about Philips 17MD255V Combo

1 Answer

No TV "Select Source" Menu Option

The "TV" menu option has magically disappeared from the "Select Source" Menu when I try to scroll through using the green button on the remote. ( It also happens when I click through using the left-most button on top of the unit.) I can't view the TV anymore. The Select Source box now goes "Blank" where TV used to be, DVD, AV-1, and so on.

No TV. Can you help?

Had the same problem and found on the back of the tv on the black box that the cable hooks to there is a plug at the top of that box on the left side came loose. If you slide that box to the right you can completely remove it from the tv. Reinstall it and make sure it's plugged in tight your tv setting should come back.

I have a Harman/Kardon AVR 235. I'm not getting sound for my tv and ps3 but sound from the radio. what should I check first?

Hi,
I would check that you have selected not only the right source (eg: DVD or CD etc...) but you also need to assign which inputs follows the source selected.
So for example, if you plugged in your PS3 to your AVR235 using the Optical wire, and you want to select DVD every time you want the PS3, you must go in to the menu and make sure that Optical "xx" is assigned to DVD.
Select the button "Digital" on your remote to select in the Digital Input, and select the appropriate one.
That being said, you also need to make sure your TV Speakers are Disabled, or Sound sent to External source. Check in your TV menu to make sure that in your sound menu, that you select "TV Speakers to OFF" or might be other options, the option name varies from TV to TV.
Same with the PS3, make sure that in your System Setup Menu, scroll down until you see Sound Settings and select Audio Output Settings and make sure you select your connection (whether it is Analog RCA, or Optical.) Then try it again and see what happens.
Hope this helps,

The store demo mode is stuck on my insignia tv. the user guide says go to menu and then setup and select plug & play. however the plug and play option is grey and it wont let me select it.

Are you using an HDMI cable? Go to input and select TV. Then you should be able to access the Plug & Play option and be able to turn off the Demo Mode.

Screen changes between color as a demo function.no signal

Gateway was sued Class action over LCD's and Plasmas they sold over a 2 year period. They resell 3rd party TV's that were very faulty, an immature design.

Here's what I learned about mine, which makes it limp through as a Computer monitor (both DVI and VCA) and halfway functional TV.
You have to connect a DVI source, on the Main Menu for the DVI input there is an option called "Factory Mode". scroll down to it with the CH buttons and select it with the vol button. The scroll to "initialize eprom", select and confirm it. After the "Waitting" words disappear, make sure you have a TV source connected, Then turn the TV off and on, using the hard switch in the back. The TV input should be defaulted to channel 10 or 11 now But you select a TV channel that has no TV signal on it (like channel 1 for example) , the whole TV input side will refuse to let you select it again, and you'll have a blank screen and have to start over.

That takes care of the blank screen thing Now the other problem is parental control is defaulting to "ON" or something, and you can't program channels. With the TV input Main Menu engaged, select "Setup Menu." If you have this problem, then you'll only see 2 options, all the TV input and channel programming options will be missing. You have to select Parental Control, and when it prompts you for a password hit the volume > button 4 times (or just wait for a minute.) This should bring back your TV System and auto prgram/manual search options.

Unfortunately, my TV doesn;t remember these setting very well if I select cable, it does better if I select "AIr". But at least it funtions - kind of. If you switch to your computer input, you probably will have to switch the monitor off and on from the back panel again. Mine always starts up with the menu onscreen. All this might bve less trouble if you have a the remote, I don;t know where mine went after the last move.

Good luck, and hope this helps.

Close caption works when I select the input for tv, select hdmi input and the close caption option disappears from the menu. I have a shaw cable pvr hd box and need the close caption to work on all...

You need to turn on closed captions through the menu of your PVR. To have it on all the time, turn the box off, press menu on the front of the box, and scroll down to captions.
This should fix the problem
