I have an HP Photosmart printer/scanner on an olde computer running under Windows 2000. I've just bought a new computer with Vista, and it doesn't accept the HP software on the CD that came with the printer. Can you advise what I should do please? Thanks, Richard.

If you ahve teh software installed, right click the icon and select the properties option then locate the tab that has the option to run in compatibility mode. Set the software to run in Windows XP or Vista compatibility. If it is stopping the installation, right click the installation file and tell it to run in compatibility mode with a previous version of windows to install.

if your os is not recognizing the printer than you need to download theupdated software compatible with windows 7 of your printer

Try to scan using the below steps
1.Click the Start (Windows) icon.
2. Click All Programs.
3. Click Windows Photo Gallery.
4. Click File and then click Import From Scanner or Camera.
5. Click Import.
6. Click Scan.
If you are able to scan in this way, you can perform a level two uninstallation.

You should be able to use the printer with vista once you download the utility the program recommends.

You should uninstall the XP driver for the Printer and install this instead: HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers

You should use the uninstaller utility on the HP support page on the link provided, and after installing the new driver.

You can also scan and copy in Vista by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (ie HP C3180) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.

We have you covered! Simply click on the link below , and select the download for Windows Vista ( it is the last one on the list) .....after the download is complete , launch the setup and you should be good!

You can set compatability to windows 2000. I presume you have vista. start menu. control panel, programs... then you will see set compatability or similiar (my control panel won't open at the moment). use the wizard to walk you thru the steps. select the program you are having issues with. It will allow you to run the program as win 2000 compatability.

New Computer is it? Vista- yes? Big troubles with drivers for scanners from vista. Scanners have a built in processor that runs all its operations on command from the computer. Vista is not speaking the same language the scanner wants to hear. Got onto HP tech support- I don't hold out much hope for you re this.
