The TV does not turn back on because a fault had been detected, and now the TV is in protect mode.

On a rear projection TV like this there are many faults that can cause this.

Try leaving the TV set power cord unplugged for two or three hours, this will drain power from the unit, and reset the protection switch if there is no real proble.

If it does not restart that means that there is a fault.

Unless you have tested components on such a TV before, it is better to call a technician, this is an expensive set.

If you want to call support you can use the phone number listed on the owner manual. If you ring them you can also ask Akai the price and modality for an extended warranty, or an extended assistance plan.
This will cover repair and parts expenses for one extra year, and it is usualy less expensive than a single repair job.

Unplug the tv poercord from the electric outlet first.wait for 10 minutes.remove all the external wires of dvd players vcd players or any other devices connected to the back of the tv.check out any other electric device in that poer outlet and see if it is working properly.if the device is working properly , then plug the tv wire in the electric outlet.and ckeck out mostly the tv get resetted after removing the wire and reinserting after sometime and starts working. but if the other device you connet to check the power outlet does not work that means the socket is faulty.so you connect your tv wire to any other electricsocket. if still after doing all this things the tv does not work.then the problem is internal/ the fuse on the main board must be blown off.or the board has shor circuit on it and it needs resoldering.check it out. thanks.

The power supply or the power board on your TV is bad. It will need to be replaced.

you mean that there was no power on the TV..

1st check the tv plug and wire for any damaged and also check if your outlet is now faulty.

if this was all check and no problem was seen, then you were having a problem on the power supply area of the tv.

in this case i may advise you to call someone who can do the work for you, it was not advisable to service the unit if you have no idea how to repair such television.

in this case i may advise you to call someone who can do the work for
you, it was not advisable to service the unit if you have no idea how
    to repair such television.

it is very dangerous to service and repair inside the tv cause there was still high voltage electricity sored inside, and this will be so risky if you will try to serice it on your own.

you better call a repair guy for this job.

Timer is not the problem---the tick ticking sound is the shutdown circuit in the set that has been triggered by a short somewhere likely in the high voltage area or the convergence circuit---shop repair---says Akai but I suspect set was made by Samsung who owned that name at one time.

Akaia PTH5498

The STKs are common and if you have an experienced electronics tech around they can replace them for much less money but the tech must have advanced soldering and IC exchange experience.

The STK ics, two of them, can be purchased on line for around $20 to $40 each.

http://www.partstore.com/GetModel.aspx?MfgName=Toshiba&BrandName=Toshiba&ModelNu...

Partstore has two models available - one for around $40 and another for around $55.

The part number is STK392-110 and if you google you can find them for as little as $6/each but I don't recommend the cheap ones as they are not reliable.

It takes a good tech around 3 or 3 hours to take the old ones out and solder in the new ones. Also, it is likely one or two resistors are burnt and will need replacing as well.
