Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

Polaroid 4641-tlxb lcd tv. Black screen--no power. Won't turn off.

I have a 15-month old Polaroid 4641-TLXB, which has the following symptoms:

  1. TV screen won't turn on (red light will turn blue, but screen is blank)
  2. Can't turn off TV with remote or on the set (blue light won't turn red when the screen is blank); I have to unplug TV to turn it off
  3. TV also does not turn on when unplugged (even for a long period of time)then plugged back in.
I have seen the thread re the solution for the FLM-373B with identical problems. Would that approach possibly work for me? If so, I am a noob, so where would I find out which parts of the back to remove, where the offending capacitors are, and how to access them?

Alternatively, how do I find a reliable repairman in my area (just outside Philadelphia), given the fact that Polaroid is not a common tv. Polaroid is of no help (other than suggesting replacing the fuse, which I did). They won't recommend anyone. Although the Polaroid warranty has expired, I can get the credit card company to cover tthe costs, under their warranty extension program.

373b doesn't come on when turned on....get a flash of the Polaroid logo then black screen with the blue light. It will not turn off so I have to pull the plug to get it turned off. Just before this happened it developed a loud humming sound on the 1080i setting. We switched to 720 display and the sound problem lessened then the next thing that happened was the power failure when I turned it on.

Same problem, can't turn the tv on or off with the remote or the buttons on the side. I have to unplug the tv for a few seconds before I can turn it on. Also has developed a buzzing noise.

You have to use the TV remote to access the set menu.
From there, you can set the TV to monitor mode.

First of all please unplug the TV for an hour or more. If this power reset does not allow the TV to turn on component failure is indicated. These sets are assembled using the wave soldering process they are known for having cold solder connections. The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down when it detects a problem. This model of TV has over 2,000 parts which include millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Integrated circuits and transistors can go bad. This can cause other components to become defective, which can have a domino affect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again since if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. The only way to know for sure what is causing the problem and for proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed with the correct electronic test equipment and the correct skills to use the test equipment.

If you want to repair it yourself then you must be having an oscilloscope and has a knowledge to operate it.

If you decide this is not something that you can do it yourself then this repair will be about $100 to $300. If the problem is a bad circuit board, and if the board can be repaired or has to be replaced. A small TV repair shop will often charge less for the repair than a large electronics repair facility.

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

When we run the satellite through a DVD player, the volume works fine. When we don't, we get bad static and popping. Dish Network has replaced the remote and the DVR, so it appears to be the TV.

I would assume the problem would be either in the cabling or the DVD player. Have you tried running thecable straight from th receiver to the tv?

Polaroid 4241-TLXB wont stay on

I think I may have just solved this issue. Remove the back covers and turn the tv on until it the screen goes black. There will be a little red led that will light up when the screen goes black. right above that light there is 4 little swiches, the bottom one is labled BURN. Switch that one to the opposite direction. I don't know how but mine has been working for a couple days now with no issues. GOOD LUCK!
