Flashing E, says print cartridge is not compatible with printer, wont turn off unless unpugged.
Printer wont work at all. It has been working fine with the same black cartridge for a while so I know that the cartridge is definitely compatible. I haven't changed the print cartridges recently, but usually when I have run out of ink, my computer tells me the cartridge is low and this does not effect it continuing to work. Any ideas??
Re: flashing E, says print cartridge is not compatible...
HP has a patch for this problem. Go to the HP official web site, support, & select the printer model. You will get a list of drivers and fixes under windows xp ( and I assume other OS as well) The file is a patch called "Resolve HP PSC catridge compatability issue". Download and run and hope you will be fixed.

If the ink cartridges you purchased are not Lexmark - that could be the problem. I used to have a Lexmark printer and I did the same thing - I purchased ink cartridges that were compatible but not Lexmark brand. Everything seemed fine until I tried to print and then I would get the same error sign and low ink message and it would not print. I kept thinking I was doing something else wrong and tried everything. In the end I broke down and got ink cartridges from Lexmark and that solved the problem. Now I have a Brother printer and I never buy anything other than Brother ink cartridges because I'm always afraid of that same thing happening again. I wish I knew which printers WOULD accept those non name brand ink cartridges, but thus far I do not know of any printers that do. Hope this helps you.
Turn the printer on. Remove the cartridges. Gently clean the electric contacts on the cartridges and the cartridge carrier. Put the cartridges back in. If the light is still flashing, and your printer won't print, one of your cartridges is faulty. I suggest you go to the refill shop and consult them which cartridges needs a replacement. Does any message appears on your monitor when you try to print something? Usually, a message saying "problem with black/color cartridge" or something similar, that's why I am asking.
Fifteen Flashes: The FINE Cartridge cannot be recognized.
Possible causes are as follows:
- The FINE Cartridge may not be installed properly.
- The FINE Cartridge may not be compatible with this printer.
Install the appropriate FINE Cartridge. If lines are misaligned or the resulting output is not satisfactory, carry out the Print Head Alignment.
Could have a corrupt driver. Disconnect
the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do
both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer
to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
Have you made sure that you've taken the plastic strip off of the ink cartridge? I had this problem once and I then realised that i had forgotten to remove the strip covering the ink.
Also, have you installed a colour cartridge? I have the same printer and it wont print unless you have both ink cartridges inserted and in good condition. (If you don't want to fork out for HP Original, I find that the Tesco Remanufactured versions work fine)
Hope this helps.
