Can't open my flash drive

When I put my flash drive into the USB port, it shows up in my computer. When you go to click on it in My Computer a message pops up and says " Please insert disk into Drive". It is there. Can you please help me fix this problem.

ports (com&lpt) right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems for a computer and its parts

This didn't fix the problem. :( I don't think it is the USB port though because it says the same thing when I plug it into any computer. I think it has to be something wrong with the Flash drive it self, but thank you for the suggestion.

if its a problem with the usb drive you might resore it to default staus Right click on usb drive select properties you will have an array of options

Select the hardware option then select your drive properties policies

SOURCE: my usb 4gb flash don my computer only reads in a secure K with 1m

Or better you could fix the drive to only have one partition like a normal USB key. I don't understand why maxell decided to cripple what seems like a perfectly good USB key by creating the 1k partition (as the first partition) and not making software easily available to repartition it.

Portable device tab missing in device manager

What type of portable device? Are you talking about something like an external drive or a usb flash drive or something that you plug into the computer's usb port? If so, maybe the usb port is bad, so try another usb port.

Maybe the portable device is bad, so try using it on another computer and see if it is shown. Most times it will show up under My Computer along with the hard drive. Click Start/My Computer and see if it is shown.

Solution: insert a flash drive into another USB port. If the USB port 1 is not detected, insert flash drive into a USB 2, USB 3 or USB 4.
2. Assumption: normal USB ports, computer driver error, a normal flash drive
Solution: reinstall the chipset drivers, or USB.
3. Assumption: normal USB port,
computer driver normal, flash drive is broken
Solution: try to insert the flash drive into another computer. If the flash drive is not detected, it means your flash drive is damaged.

WHEN YOU PLUG IN THE FLASH DRIVE TO A COMPUTER USB PORT WHAT DO YOU DO IN ORDER TO PLAY MUSIC??? i know a box comes up which says what do you want to do, view files & etc but do not know how to play...

If the autoplay menu doesn't show up, just go to My Computer and double click whichever drive the USB is in. If it does, just view the files, then find and double click the music files you have in the flash drive. It should open whatever music player you have on your computer and play the music.
Hope this helps.

How to install a USB flash drive

Just plug your USB flash drive into the USB port of your computer or other USB-equipped device and drag the files you want to take with you into the folder that appears on your screen. Your files are instantly transferred to your USB flash drive. To transfer the items on your USB flash drive onto another computer, simply plug your USB flash drive into the computer that you want the files transferred to, open the folder that appears on your screen, and drag the desired files onto the computer's desktop.

1.) Insert Flash Drive into the USB Port of your computer.

-Where is my USB port? It is usually found in newer model computers in a hidden compartment on the front of the hard drive and in the back of the hard drive on older computers. The port for laptops is found on the side or back of the computer.

2.) Wait for the hardware to automatically install on your computer.

After the hardware is installed, it is ready to use!

3.) In most cases, an Options Window will automatically open. Select "Open folder to view files" Click "OK."

I have a really old computer and I put my flash drive into the where it is supposed to go, but nothing came up. What am I supposed to do?

Some Flash Drives don't come with an "autorun" installed in it, if you have a Windows 7 Operative System, it might be installing the driver for it. If it's already installed, go to your computer menu and check if the drive shows up there (In the "removable drives/devices" area). If it doesn't show up, try plugin it in another USB port, your port might be the on not working.

L have forgotten how to use my USB to up music on it from ltunes.....when l plug it in to my computer it flashes for a few seconds and then nothing..not sure what l have to do ...l have tried finding it on...

Once you put the flash drive into the USB port, double click on the "my computer" icon. This will open up and show all available drives on your computer. The flash drive will have its' own drive letter. Once you log into i-tunes, when you go to save the file, make sure it goes to the flash drive. If your USB port is not recognizing the flash drive, try to do a system restore to a previous date. Try to go back at least 30 days (if you have created restore points on your system), then re-connect the flash drive and it should begin to install the proper drivers. If this is not your only USB port, try another one, if it is your only port, try plugging another USB device into it and see if it will recognize it.

Flash Drive problem

Try opening the 'computer' icon - normally shows as an icon on your desktop or in start menu then you will hopefully see the flash drive listed along with C Drive, CD Drive etc. Double click or right click and open - this should let you see and open individual files on the flash.
