Cannot playback dvd-r's at all. maybe it needs to be ntsc, all pal versions fail to be read or recognized. using toast titanium to burn very well encoded MPEG2 ".m2v" files that are perfect...
I have a comparable model purchased from Costco and I too have this same issue, however some of my DVD-R'S do play back. For me it has been hit or miss with burning a standard dvd and getting it to play in my sony bluray player.I have several backups of kids movies that would play in my Philips dvd player, that will not currently play in my Sony bluray player. It is not the media that is in question it is the format/method of the way the dvd is setup, created and burned. (i think) The reason I say that is that i can take a cheapo dvd -r or dvd + r and burn a standard dvd on it. It will not play. I can then take the same brand media, burn it as DATA DVD, with an MKV file on it, and it plays fine. I do have to burn the data dvd with these options (using Imageburn) data type = MODE1/2048, file system = UDF, udf revision=2.50. This is what i do for an MKV file. Now in regards to burned dvd -r or dvd +r. It is unfortunately a work in process determining the correct or most optimum way to burn them. Here is what i have found most recently. Home movies, I imported home movies from my Canon camcorder zr300 (digital video) with windows video import (windows vista os). File format was Windows Media File. I used convertxtodvd to create the dvd files, then I used DVD shrink to make an ISO. I will be trying Nero this weekend and will post additional comments. I think it is an issue with the Sony firmware or codecs as well as the Digital Rights management. Unfortunately I know this little synopsis does not answer your problem, I just wanted you to know you are not the only one with the issue. As soon as I have a better, more scientific answer and can duplicate the results with more than one dvd -r or dvd +r, I will post my findings. I am also having a continous error 300 in regards to the Netflix application. They (sony and netflix) told me to deactivate the device, then reactivate the device. I have had this issue since July 2011. I hope this helped you a little bit.
