Re: blue spot

You have a defective light engine and you DO NOT have to be under warranty to have it replaced. Here's what you need to do...we just went through this. You need to call Hitachi's Customer Relations Department (not regular customer service). The customer relations # for Hitachi is 800-654-7013. Tell them what's happening with your set and that you think it's a bad light engine. When you call them, they will initially act like they have not heard of this problem but will give you some names of some certified Hitachi dealers in your area.

Call one of the dealers and they will send a tech out to diagnois the problem. Once the tech tells you that you have a defective light engine (all they have to do is look at the set when you have it turned on) call Hitachi customer relations back and tell them you had a tech out to confirm the problem. They will then act like they know exactly what you're talking about...imagine that! They will call the dealer that came out and once they confirm this with them, they will send a new light engine to the dealer. The dealer will then call you and arrange a time to come out and install it.

This part is paid for by Hitachi, regardless if you're under warranty or not. If your under warranty, the service should be covered if not, the part will be covered by Hitachi and all you pay is for the install. Our install was $400. DO NOT let any dealer get the part and tell you that you have to pay the $1500 for it. Hitachi knows about this problem and they are paying for the part. All you pay is for the install. Again, deal only with customer relations at the number listed above and only deal with a dealer Hitachi refers you to. Good Luck!

Re: blue spot

If your persistant, Hitachi will replace the light engine under warranty. I know several peeps who got thier light engine replace, because it is happeniing on almost all of Hitachi's TV sets. they will try to deny it, but if you read a bit from a post Im leaving you, you will see what Im talking about.Go to read the entire post and look around. Good Luck

Re: blue spot

As well, I have a large blue "Ghost" creeping down from the top of the screen, a small two inch by two inch blue spot in Left corner, and of course, the giant pink cloud. My HD comes in poor as well as the rest of the regular shows. I have tried it all; new bulb, reset on the service menu, prayers. This is a major problem as almost all owners will suffer from this and the Light engine is the only remedy. 4200 hours is all I have on this 3.5 yr old TV. Never buy Hitachi, and their customer service guys are useless. Time to consider new TV, as I am doing right now

Re: blue spot

VARIAN'S SOLUTION STILL WORKS EVERYONE!!! I have had my tv for over 4 years now and it is way out of warranty. But just yesterday I took Varian's advice just incase it might work and it did!! Granted that you must be strong in your tone that you are not happy with this problem because I had to talk to 3 consecutive superiors. Then one put me on hold and came back soon after saying that Hitachi will ship the engine light that I needed to the repair company at no cost to me. So even if they say, "sorry, we can't do anything for you because your tv is out of warranty", DON'T FALL FOR IT. Just ask for their superior and continue that until they give you the part. THANKS VARIAN!!!

Re: blue spot

Mine is also having issues with a blue spot. I have the CC advantage plan and have a service call set up. I am told that it will cost nothing to replace if it is the LE. See this post also.

There is a yellowish patch of in the lower left hand corner of my screen, either to a fall or some other type of impact. Is this fixable, if so how much?

sometimes in this set foams comes apart inside and looks like a dark spot on screen in the corners, if you can open up then then look around the light engine.

Cant locate the lamp in my hitachi 50v500a

your lamp is in the lower left hand corner, You must first remove the plastic front cover. You will see a door with screws on the lower left, remove the screws and the lamp will come out easily. When replacing it wear latex gloves and avoid touching the lamp as this will shorten the life of the lamp.

Same problem

The red death as its called.

Very common in the 50v500 and 50v700 series.

it is caused by a blocked filter deep inside the TV, nearly inaccessible.

The LCD panels overheat (red one or blue one) and the light engine needs to be replaced.

You are better off living with it unless you have a warranty.

Sorry it wasn't better news.

Contact a licensed, qualified tech, and go from there... Hitachi, based on the test parameters will likely replace the LE free of charge (PARTS & SHIPPING ONLY)... You'll have to pay the tech - but you're basically getting a brand new Tv inside..

Green Screen After Warm Up - 50v500

Some of the components in the video processing boards most likely have become thermo sensitive. Over time, they will fail completely. The service rep will change the processor boards that have the fault.

TV Problem

It is a failure in the light engine itself. You will need to have it replaced. Here is a link to that rather costly part.
