I have just got a net gear v3 modem to use with aol and a wireless laptop. and every time i attempt to search for the router it shows up as nothing found not even my neighbours wireless which showed before which oddly enough now it does not!?
havent got the box or installion instructions so was just wondering how to set it up so it can be found. have previously used the modem at a previous address.
Try the following 2 things;
1 does the laptop have a wireless switch or button if so try pressing it to see if it had been accedentially turned off, normally you will have a light somewhere on the laptop suggesting that the wireless card is on.
2 if the laptop wireless nic is turned on, try using the microsoft "Wireless Zero Configuration" service to configure your internet connection. depending upon what you have installed on your system the general idea would be from the application settings if installed / avaliable select "allow windows to manage my wireless connection" different applications use different descriptions but hopefully you get the idea. once done or if this step is not appropirate then manke sure that the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service is started;
right click on the my computer icon and select manage
then expand "services and applications" and select "Services"
(on the right hand panel you should see a list if services on your computer)
scroll down the list and find the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service right click on it and select properties.
once displayed make sure that application startup is set to "automatic" and click start if needed.
close "computer management"
then just where the time is normally displayed you should see an icon showing a computer with cartoon brackets eminating from it. right click and selct view wireless networks. and see if you can now view wireless networks.

It should connect with an Ethernet cable. Looks like a phone cable but is twice as wide with 8 pins instead of 4. Plug one end into the modem's Ethernet output port and plug the other end into the router's single WAN/Internet input port.
Check your ip settings in your pc and make sure they are set to get dynamically. Also check under wireless lan settings that you have dynamic ip turned on.
Otherwise you will manually have to set your computer ip address to the range set in the router/modem
On your Laptop go to Control Panel-> Printers-> and then add printer. Select the option of network printer and search for your printer. If found add it.
Or Else check the ip of printer from ports tab in printer properties on desktop computer ans search your printer with ip address on Laptop.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem. If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first. If your computer is able to go online through the modem then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router. open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem Then you need to connect the computer to the router ad the modem to the router. open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP. Click Here for step by step by instructions
ur wireless code will be stored inside the modem/router. try accessing the modem by typing -> 192.168.1.1 in any web browser. it ll prompt u for user name and password. normally username -> admin and pwd->admin or 1234 had u not previously altered it. once u get through the modem explore in and search for wireless security or ssid key and password. use this ssid and password for wireless net access
Hello Mate,
the siemens speedstream 4200 is a DSL modem/Router which doesn't have wireless connection. So even tough if you have a computer equiped with a wireless adapter, you will not be able to connect wirelessly because the siemens 4200 doesn't act as wireless access point.
You may need next time to check first if the modem/router to buy support wireless (wifi g or n) and make sure that it's not only a modem, it should be also a router.
i attached here some references for you from the top brands:
1. Linksys DSL modem/Router with wireless N: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/MEA/en/products/WAG120N
2. Linksys DSL modem/Router with Wireless G:

You can find other brands as Dlink, Netgear ...
Best Regards,
I went to the Hughes web site to check out the modem. They say it is also a router. I think you will have to disable the router abilities of your WNDR 3300 Net Gear Router.
Get into the Netgear setup by loging on to it.In its WAN setup select Static IP Address and set the Static IP Address to the same as the hughes modem, except for the last number which should be about 50 greater. IE: Hughes 192.168.12.1 and Netgear 192.168.12.55.
In the DHCP setup, disable the DHCP Server
In the Wireless setup, Give your network a name is SSID. You should also set up security to keep others off you internet connection with a WEP key.
Connect your wireless modem router
Sign on to AOL.
Download the AOL Easy Installer for Thomson 576 Wireless Modem Router.
When prompted to save the file to a location select an appropriate place (desktop is a good example).
Once the AOL Easy Installer is downloaded, double click the file: ST_V1.exe
This will launch the modem router installer and show the "Welcome" screen.
Click the Start Installation button to continue. If you wish to cancel, click the Cancel Installation button.
Read the next page carefully. The text advises to close any running programs, ensure to close your AOL software also. Click Next to continue.
Please Note:
Connect a DSL filter to each telephone socket that is in use for telephones, dial-up modems and fax machines, etc.
If you require additional DSL filters, order online at AOL Keyword Broadband Extras.
Notes:
Ensure to use AOL 8.0 or above.
The AOL account to be used for the modem router set up must be a General (18+) account.
This installer is not supported with a modem router containing beta firmware.
