My acer 3620 keeps freezing up

Laptop hang issues can be a frustrating issue for the user and a tedious problem for a technician.

The variety of causes for this event are staggering, but many can be diagnosed in a few simple steps.

Peripheral Issues

USB drives, inserted before boot, will cause a hang.

Remove all such devices and media (such as CDs and floppy disks) before booting your laptop.

Software Causes

Press "F8" at boot and press "Last Known Good Configuration" to take your laptop to a previous working boot. Starting your laptop in "Safe Mode" by pressing "F8" at boot will help

you check for software causes for a hanging laptop.

By turning off unnecessary processes, this mode allows you to run anti-spyware and antivirus software to clear malware that hinders performance.

Perform a check disk by right-clicking on your "C Drive" found in "My Computer."

At the "Properties" link, press the "Tools" tab to schedule error checking.

Reboot your laptop and let it perform this check.

Hardware Causes

Verify that your RAM is seated correctly by removing it carefully from under its access door on the bottom of your laptop and reinserting it.

Do not touch its gold contact points, as this may damage the memory.

Download the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic software to test the integrity of the hard disk.

If you have access, run a professional hardware diagnostic suite to check the motherboard and CPU.

Boot with the battery removed to verify that there is not an issue with power conflicts.

Final Considerations

Checking the "Event Viewer from Administrative Tools" located in "Control Panel" (XP only) can also shed light on potential causes.

Performing a repair installation of Windows can address missing files, registry errors and corrupted system files without damaging your data.

This process requires your original Windows disks but is often quite useful.

Press windows button and in the search type msconfig go to startup tab and uncheck those you dont want to start.

I have had windows7 installed on my computer and want to refer back to vista without a reboot disc, could you possibly help me to do this. many thanks.

Hi

Depending on how you upgraded from Vista to Win 7:

My Computer > Local C: > look for Windows Old and double click on it.

This will give you access to all the files and maybe even some programs you had in Vista.

However, to be able to use both Vista and Win 7 on the same computer, they need to be installed on separate partitions, then on booting you will get an option, controllable with the arrows on your keyboard as to which operating system you boot into.

If You did not install them on separate partions, you cannot 'use' Vista any more because althoughit is possible to upgrade operating systems, it is not possible to downgrade them. So once Vista has been upgraded to Win 7, unfortunately there is no way back to just Vista again unless you back everything up to an external storage device and start all over again with fresh installations.

I hope this helps.

I'm repairing laptops for eight years and this problem has something to do either with the HDD or your RAM. If you have two modules of RAM try either of the two if it will pose the same problem. If not definitely the culprit is your HDD. It doesn't matter if it is brand new that it will work perfectly. They are transported and we don't know how they were handled.

Installing XP after formatting Vista in Dell Laptop

When you install XP, when you select which drive you want to install it on, you also have the option to create and delete partitions.

When you're asked which drive you want to install on, instead of selecting one you need to delete your C partition (There are keyboard shortcuts displayed at the bottom to tell you how), then use the free space to create as many other partitions as you want.

Make sure you size your partitions correctly, because otherwise you would go over the size capacity of your drive.

After your partitions are created, you can install windows on C. After the installation is complete, make sure to format the other partitions (From My Computer, right-click a drive and select Format) so you can use them.

Hp 2700 hard disk is bad . need to recover files and data . please solve

If you have no access then your only option may be sending the drive to a data retrieval service. This is not cheap and not an overnight thing.

If you know a brave local techy who knows his stuff he could swap the control boards inside the drive with the ones from a identical working drive.
