For the slow pick up of speed, change the EGR valve. A bad exhaust Gas Emissions valve will make it impossible to pick up speed or climb a hill of any kind. Fix the exhaust system leaks also, That could make the Oxygen sensor not work properly and cause the check engine light to come on. Once you've done all repairs, other than what I've told you, the light will not go out on it's own. You need to take it back to Auto Zone and have them turn it out electronically.

SOURCE: po299 code exhaust noise decreased performance in 2004 jetta tdi

I had the same problem. It was the EGR cooler pipe from the turbo to the pre-cooler before the exhaust inters the EGR valve. I replaced it myself. the pipe cost $103.00 from TDI parts online. There is a kit to block it off but it was more than the pipe. Blocking it off turns on check engine light. The EGR heat exchanger also preheats the coolant that goes directly to the heater core for quick warmups in the winter. Good Luck!

SOURCE: Clutch rattle

this sounds like an adjustment issue. you did not mention the mileage...The clutch is released by a bearing, this release bearing needs to come back off of the fingers of the clutch pressure place, early wear and noise happens.

Near the end of the clutch life, you may find that you cannot release any more, if your model is adjustable.

Start with proper clutch release adjustment.

Check to make sure that the rubber o-ring going into the heater core located under the hood on the passenger side does not need replaced. Also check the water pump, these are both very common problems with volkswagen.

1997 VW Golf GTI 2 Litre. The ABS light comes on

Hello, My 2000 2.0 Golf just recently had the same problem. I would feel the ABS pump working at certain times through the accelerator pedal. I found the right rear sensor failed the Bentley manual continuity test . After removing it I found it was pretty rusted. The sensor head is located inside the rear brake disc hub area and this probably explained this rust. The rust probably worked its way into the sensor body where you can't clean it and thus the resistance value went above specification. I ordered mine through Autohaus and cost me just over $50.00 for both rear sensors. Even though my drivers side was good I replaced it at the same time. The ABS light hasn't been on for 4 days now..

I had the same problem on my 2001 gti 1.8T I bought the car used, and it came with an aftermarket suspension. it was lowered about 1.5 inches with 17 inch wheels the plastic gaurds on the inside of the engine bay have now completly worn through and the noise has gone away. wich is nice because the intercooler now gets better air flow with the holes worn in the plastic. you could also try replacing the wheel bearings.

well, first off, check your fuse. yes, there is a separate fuse for the hazards and blinkers. if that's not it, its possible your relay went. is there, or was there at any point a strange buzzing under the dash for a little bit?
