Question about Samsung DVD & Blu-Ray Players

1 Answer

Samsung VR 5709 VCR seldom ever used because of sound and picture problems. If used to record, at times the copy would would have no sound, at times it would have sound. Picture quality was always coarse and grainy. Could not be trusted so was seldom used. Are they notorious for this or is there a fix?

I'm trying to copy a tv show from my DVR and the recorder keeps saying Recording Error This program is not recordable in +vr mode. What is +vr mode?

Recording mode is set wrong, change it and try again unless there is an anti-copy signal on recording which some money hungry cable companies do to screw with customers.

Screen says cant record copy protected movie

Is this a new problem or has it always been like this? The unit will throw that error message if there's a copy protection flag on the broadcast source.

To make matters worse, there are three flags a broadcaster can set. Copy Always, Copy Once, and Copy Never.

Copy Always and Copy Never are pretty self-explanatory but the Copy Once flag with this unit only works with certain media, namely DVD-RAM and DVD-RW in VR mode with CPRM (Content Protection for Recordable Media.

Copy Always flag should work with all media. I don't know of any easy way to figure out which broadcasts have which flag but try changing your media and recording mode first.

P.S. You may also want to reset to factory default settings by pressing FF and RW together on the player. Also make sure you're running the latest firmware.

Good Luck!

Magnavox H2160MW9 VHS tape "recording not allowed" to hard drive

RIAA has prodded the electronics manufacturers into putting copy protection into their recorders. You are allowed one copy, I believe, and you will be able to make it to a DVD-R in VR mode. VR mode protects (how? dunno) the recording from being copied a second time. DVD-RAM and DVD-R (maybe -RW) in VR mode should allow you to make your copy.

I have a Samsung DVD -VR 357 combo unit and i can't record

I have the Samsung dvd-vr 357. I have had a couple problems with it but I called samsung and they walked me through fixing it each time. I don't know if you have tried this or not but that is my suggestion. The last problem I had was copying from vcr to dvd. I got audio but no video. Problem was it was on dvd when i started it, it should have been on vrc. It should be set on whichever one you are recording from. Hope this helps someone.

Can't make copies of DVD's recorded on Samsung DVD-VR330

This is a common problem with DVD recorders. To make the answer simple, we could say that they construct a rather corrupt table of contents and the corrupt table of contents leads software through a tangled map through the video files.

They record in a format that is either DVD-VR or DVD+VR and that is a bit different from the easily copyable DVD-Video format. And, as I said, they often corrupt the format a bit in the process.

There are many software solutions out there. I hate to recommend one because they all have their quirks and strengths.

My best suggestion is for you to go to: http://www.videohelp.com. The topic you've presented has been addressed hundreds of times in those forums. Just browse some of the threads and you'll discover some of the popular methods for easily copying the discs your Samsung has been churning out.

It won't cost you a dime for the freeware solutions. You'll just have to use your brain a bit. Or, I'm sure that for about $50, you can get a one-click no-brainer. Just choose according to your budget.

Good luck. It will be easy. Those forums will let you assess the various approaches in great detail and they will give you step-by-step solutions.

See the manual, page 8:

What are “Recording modes”? for DVD-RW
There are two recording modes available using this
recorder: VR mode and Video mode. When recording to
a DVD-R disc, recordings are always in Video mode.
DVD-RW discs can be formatted for VR mode recording
or Video mode recording.
VR mode recording
• 4 different picture quality/recording time settings available
(SP, LP, EP, XP)
• Not playable on regular DVD players
• Recordings can be extensively edited
• Total number of titles on the disc should be less than
99.
Video mode recording
• 4 different picture quality/recording time settings available
(SP, LP, EP, XP)
• Playable on regular DVD players (after finalizing)
• Limited editing features
• Total number of titles on the disc should be less than
99.
Note :
DVD-Video Format (Video mode) is a new format for
recording on DVD-R/RW discs that was approved by
the DVD Forum in 2000. You may therefore experience
problems playing recordable DVD discs in some players.
Symptoms include video artifacts, audio and/or
video dropouts and playback suddenly stopping.
Our company cannot take responsibility for problems
playing discs recorded on this VCR/DVD Recorder in
other players.
