Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV27 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

My Sony MiniDV TRV27

Hi

I have a Sony DCR-TRV27 with which I am facing a problem. A part of the left side console buttons do not work - the tape controls (REW, FF, STOP, PAUSE, PLAY) work alright. The Memory Stick controls seem to work alright. But, pressing the Menu button does not bring any menu display on the screen. Similarly, the scrolling wheel on the front seems not working. A couple of years back the moisture went inside (I went to Niagara falls!). For few weeks whole of the panel wasn't working but now most of it works. But I cannot get the Menu option work. Could you please advise. If you need any other information please feel free to ask. I would be glad to hear if you have any other suggestions. thanks for your time,

Thank you mistersony for your helpful comments. I am going to venture to open and clean it myself. I need little more help - which side should I open (keeping the camera straight when the lens is on the far side and on/off switch is on the right). Couple of days back the tape controls have been working. The wheel control (that switches the menu) on the front doesn't work. I am sure going to try doing it myself, pls help. tia

The moisture that got inside has probably begun to corrode the connections to the control panel. Your best solution is to get the camcorder to a qualified technician and get it cleaned (the circuit boards cleaned) as soon as possible. If you want to try opening up the unit yourself (I don't recommend this because the units are fragile inside and easy to damage) you will be looking for the ribbon cable and the connector where the control panel connects to the main board. You will likely see either a white crystalline substance or perhaps a black substance on the connector or the ribbon cable (this is the corrosion ) which you can clean off with a toothbrush and perhaps some Caig Labs R5 (available from Amazon, a type of contact cleaner). Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

Hi! my sony dcr-trv265e can play the tapes via the video and tv but when i re-record over them its just a blank blank screen? so i need anothe tape or can i record over old tapes?

Sony and the other media suppliers do not recommend re-recording over any digital tapes, including MiniDV. Re using tapes can lead to dropouts and errors after only a few times. With MiniDV prices so inexpensive these days (in the grand scheme of things), is there any reason NOT to use new tape? Also, many companies keep all their MiniDV tapes as a kind of stock footage archive. You never know when you might need a shot that you have already filmed, and it saves considerable time and money to pick the tape off the shelf.

How to transfer sony dcr-hc26 videos to pc using usb cable thanks

The Sony HDR-HC26 is a miniDV tape based camcorder. No surprises if you can't get USB streaming working.

ALL miniDV tape based camcorders transfer DV-format video by conneting the DV port of the HD camcorder to the Firewire port of your computer. USB won't work. The "DV" in miniDV = Digital Video. It is as digital as the digital video from flash memory or hard disc drive or DVD based camcorders - only better because it is not compressed as much as the others.

Memory cards are not the only way to store digital video - and while not as good as miniDV tape, memory cards are not as bad as DVD based consumer camcorders...

Firewire IEEE1394, DV and i.LINK are all the same thing.

If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot (PCI for desktops; PCMCIA or ExpressCard for laptops), so you can add one.

Hi....

The dcr-hc38 is a minidv camcorder that usea a minidv tape. There is no "delete" on tape camcorders. You simply record over the tape. Or if you want to get rid of a recorded section on the tape you dont want, find out the exact minutes/seconds display of the section you dont want and just record over the section with the lens cap on.  To fully edit the tape, you will need to upload to your computer and use the editing software that came with your camcorder.

Is the memory stick of sony handy cam minidv trv-18 expandable?

On many cameras , the picture format that you can save on memory stick is not the same that you can have by recording on tapes. It should be tha same on your handycam.

You can increase memory stick to at least 2GB, that is what sony reccomends, you can test a 4 gb to 16 gb at the shop, if it works , then buy it.

However, the quality of movies grabbed on memory stick, should be far less than the one of movies recorded on tape.

Sony DCR-TRV27

i have (or probably had) the same problem. Try this - there is a small reset button on the left side panel of the camcorder. While the set is on VCR model press this and keep pressed for 30 seconds or so. The corrected image should return and probably the problem would go away. I tried this by chance and the problem doesn't seem to recur.

good luck.

I have another problem though:
