When I unplug my Toshiba Tecra 8200 with windows XP, the screen becomes dark, but not too dark. Please help!

Check your power setting preferences - although I am not familiar with your computer, some laptops reduce power to the processor and screen when unplugged to save battery power. You can normally change the settings so that it runs normally whether plugged in or on battery (although of course the battery will then not last as long)

Toshiba tecra 8200 power problem

The power button is on the LEFT side of the computer, under the Ctrl key, slightly closer to you. It is covered by a sliding door which slides BACK to open and expose the push-ON button.

Try borrowing a compatible HDD instead of buying a third one for testing and check if the same error exists. Try also using an external DVD drive to see if your internal CD-ROM is defective. Try also using another Windows XP CD installer. You can also use other OS installation CD to check it. Otherwise, there is something wrong with your lappy's motherboard due to tear and wear, heat, vibration, misuse and shock.

Need to down load system disk for tecra 8200

I would suggest using a recovery disk, but if you need the data off of it I would take it to the a repair shop.

You can get a recovery disk here.
