Question about Computers & Internet

The screen is darker when unplugged

I have an LG laptop (LG LE50 Express). Normally the screen is very bright the laptop is plugged to the electricity, and much darker when I disconnect it from the cables (to save battary life). A few days ago it became the opposite - The screen is darker when the laptop is plugged, and much brighter when unplugged.

I mostly work with the laptop when it's plugged to electricity (faster, better to watch DVD's, fast downloading from the internet ect.). What should I do to change it back to the way it was?

On your laptop there should be key combinations to change the brightness of your screen. Once you do this, it will stay that way for each mode until you change it again. There should be in blue above the arrow keys, the F keys, or the number keys, a symbol that indicates brightness; one key for up and one key for down. You press the FN key and that corresponding key to turn your brightness up or down. Once you got it set, leave it. It will stay that way until you change it again.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

Unit won't turn on

If the overload indicator is lit, the most likely cause is there are more devices plugged into the UPS than is can support. Try unplugging all devices but one and see if the unit functions normally.

You can then try to figure out how many is too many.

Display will not come on plugged in or not

The UPS needs to have a good DC Buss for it to work. Before you buy the new battery disconnect the battery & unplug it from the wall. Push the on button to reset the logic. You may see the display flash breifly. Install the new battery. Then plug in the UPS and turn it on and enjoy

I need to know where the screen inverter is located and where I might buy one and how much it should cost. Thanks, Al

The screen inverter is located behind the screen bezel and under the lcd panel. It has two plgs, one on either end, the plug on the left is attached to the motherboard and carries the power, the plug on the right takes the converted power and supplied the lcd panel.. Usually you just have to remove the rubber screw covers, remove the screws and take your fingernails and pry one side of the bezel away and work your way around until the bezel comes free. Sometimes the inverter is held to the screen by a single screw but in most cases it is held on a couple of plastic guide pins. Just unplug the old and plug in the new.

There is a hideous whistle coming out of the unit! We can't stop it by removing all devices that are plugged into it or by pushing the round button on the front. The overload light is illuminated but...

This sounds like the gel cell battery in the unit is dead. The battery life usually is about 2-3 years and then it needs to be replaced. The BX900 UPS uses qty 2 of the 12volt 7amp hour gel cell batteries. You should be able to get them from your local battery wholesale business or computer store, even Radio Shack. The replacement batteries should run about $40-50 To replace them just open the cover and unplug the old batteries and plug in the new set.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Honestly, sounds like theres either a connection problem between the monitor and the motherboard, or the video card died. On the rear of a laptop, theres a serial port (serial meaning a rectangular shape with a bunch of pin holes in it), its used to connect a laptop to an actual computer monitor. Attempt to do this. Its plug and play, meaning it should just work. If you still get no picture on the other monitor, its probably your video card, Look into getting a new one for your pcimia slot (which is the slot located on the side of your computer, which alot of the times, a wireless card is in it). If it DOES show up on the monitor, it may be a faulty connection with the monitor to montherboard...which honestly, I'd recommend letting someone who knows what they are doing, take it apart and make sure... Cus laptops are tricky and delicate to take apart and check yourself.

If its a laptop, odds are, the screen is an LCD, and MOST LCD screens have a half life of at least 20 years... So I'd check the connection before id call it the monitors problem >.< Hope this helps.
