I Have an NAD 710 receiver, it crackled then volume went a little lower and when turned up begins to distort with no grunt, no longer crackles but the lower volume problem remains

Hello, yes, it is probably between 6 to 10 years old, the unit crackled for a while, now volume is slightly lower than normal and when you turn it up then it begins to distort as if it has a lack of grunt, it is the same with both channels which seems to suggest a power supply or mute/protection circuit problem, all voltages around the output power amp stages seems to be ok and all driver and output devices test ok, volume appears to rise and lower slightly intermittently on and off, there are no bad solder connections and the varying volume level cannot be produced by flexing the circuit boards. I hope someone can help with this problem. The NAD 710 receiver's power amplifier stages are not the usual pushpull with a plus and minus voltage supply, it is a plus supply voltage only with a seperate transformer winding, rectifier and capacitor for each channel, the output is coupled to the loudspeakers using the same value capacitors as is used for the power supply filtering and appears to be of a similiar design to the 701 receiver from many years ago. Thanks and best regards!

Hello and thank you for your suggestion which is very helpful and good sound advice, unfortunately, this did not fix the problem, it appears to be a more complicated fault that is hiding and laughing at me because I don't seem to be able to track it down. Never mind, any further suggestions from anyone would be highly appreciated and thank you THENTHEREWER for your input!
    Best regards!

There is a crackle when i turn the volume knob.

First unplug it. Sounds like you need to spray some tuner cleaner in the pots that are crackling. Pull the knob off and you should be able to use a spray can of tuner cleaner with the straw that comes with them to spray into the potentiometer , then rotate the pot several times while it is still wet. After cleaning them all, wait 10 minutes and then try.

Crackling

So if you bought enclosures that are premade AND had the speakers installed, you need to see if there is a cross over network installed in them

When i record videos with my easycap a crackling sound happens

Please check if the source audio output volume isn't too high and also if the audio input isn't set at max volume, these may cause that recorded audio get distorted, the solution is to set a lower volume to a normal level if this is the case.

Hi, I have a second hand NAD 3240PE amplifier, the right channel has an intermitent crackle but the left channel is fine, Any ideas as to what might be causing this problem?

Crackling is usually a dirty control. Try using an electronics cleaner (with lubricant) and spray out all of the controls and switches. With the unit off, work the controls and switches back and forth to "spread" the lubricant. I would spray, work and spray again.

Update this with the results and also see if the crackling is related to the overall volume level. If tied to the volume level, there could be a transistor inside that is breaking down and causing distortion.

I have a nad 7600 receiver. it is cracking and popping loudly whenever you try to adjust the volume. What could be the problem

There are a couple of possibilities here. The crackling is likely to be a dirty control. Spraying it out with electronics switch cleaner that contains a lubricant should resolve that. The popping usually indicates a build up of DC current between the amp stages. This can happen because of defective coupling caps. That may take a little more detective work. Try cleaning the controls first. If that fails to reolve the entire problem, update this and we'll start looking at circuit components.

Very loud hummimg and crackling - even when volume turned down.

There are a few variants for this model depending upon the serial number. From your description, there are some capacitors in between the amp stages called coupling caps that are failing. The hum is some DC current being passed through the output stage. The crackling is probably just dirty controls.

NAD 3020a crackle in right channel regardless of volume.

more than likely you have a bad transisitor on that side and the frequincey is distorted there's not much you can do except take it back if it's new or take it apart and check for the bad part but if you do that you had better know what your doing!! it may be just 12 volts but thru an amp it's a nasty shock

My reciever volume cuts in and out and crackles when adjusting

You can CLEAN / LUBRICATEthe volume control know with a CONTACT/CONTROL cleaner, I use a product from Radio Shack, this works wonders on drum type electo mechanical devices which are basically volume control knobs, easy to do, just remove the round knob and spray into the openings with the small tube attached, and rotate in both directions, be sure to unplug the unit first, on a few occasions it is best to remove the front panel to acheive better coverage to the rheostat type volume body, anyway it always cures the crackling and distorting sound, I would give this a try before replacing the part.
