If this is a wireless controller try to plug it in, also there is a wireless reset button near the base of the console to the left of the power button. Hope this helps.

Just bought a used xbox 360 controller online. It is a wired controller. When i plug it in to the xbox I just get green blinking light

that means you have to many controllers registered to the system I have had this problem multiple times with my xbox if anything take a wireless controller or even a guitar hero or rock band guitar and take batteries out if that doesnt work then sync one of the controllers to a different xbox.

I am the parent account of my brother who uses xbox live for xbox 360. Unfortunately, I forgot my password and for that,he can't download any games. If you can help me in any kind of way, then I will gladly...

First - Do NOT include your personal information on a public forum such as Fixya. Instructions and a link are below. You'll have to prove the account and registered console are yours.

If you have forgotten your pass code for your Xbox 360, you can reset it by answering the pass code question you created when you set up parental controls.
If you don't remember your pass code question or don't know the pass code for your Xbox 360, you can reset the pass code online. Here's how.
Note You must meet the following criteria to be able to reset your pass code online:
  • Your Microsoft account must be an adult account.
  • The console must be registered in your name.
  1. Sign in to your Microsoft account at Devices.
  2. Locate your registered Xbox 360 console.
  3. Select More actions, select Reset passcode, and then follow the instructions to reset your pass code.

Xbox 360 controller

If the control is blinks in sequence with the four LED light on the XBox 360 but it does not change to only one LED, being the one that corresponds to which player the control is, you need to remove the batteries from the control then disconnect power from your XBox 360. Wait a few minutes before reconnecting power to either then attempt to sync the control again. This resolves most issues.

Xbox 360 controller for windows

I also registered to post the solution. This is actually a very easy fix.

Goto > Start > Control Panel
Open > Sounds and Audio Devices
Goto > "Audio" Tab
Change > "Default Device" back to your sound card rather than the x-box controller.
Press > "OK"

When you plug in the x-box controller it makes itself the default audio playback because it has a headphone jack on it.

Xbox 360 controller not registering

hey there sellina and biobat,

I had the same thing happen to me, if it's just two lights that flash for a moment and then turn off. It means the controller is having a hardware failure. I ended up just returning the controller and got a new one. This generally occurs in 3rd-party controllers like Mad Catz.
