How to restore from recovery disk after installing a new hard drive

The procedure to restore from recovery disk will vary according to which computer you have. Usually you insert the recovery disc in CD / DVD drive after selecting boot sequence 1 from CD/DVD in Bios. You then push the power on button. Once windows boots from recovery CD it will continue with building up the new hard drive.

If hard drive is not detected will i loose all my pic and files?

That's not a hard drive is not detected message. That messages is simply saying that there are missing or corrupt boot or system files. Yes your files and pictures are still there. In fact if you took the drive out and slaved it on another system you will be able to see the Windows directory and get to you files.

First and foremost make sure it is trying to boot from the hard drive and not from some Music CD that you have in the DvD/CD drive. This will cause a no bootable device error message. So if you have something in the cd drive remove it and let it boot from the hard drive. If you still have the problem try the steps below.

To fix this the best thing to do is run the check disk utility.
To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command. If the check disk utility does not solve the problem, then you will need a Windows Operating System (the same as your operating system). The D600 for the most part has Windows XP and it came with a reinstall disk. Just put the disk in the cd drive and boot from it. When The windows instruction screen comes up you want to INSTALL WINDOWS, (don't select the option to Repair). After you select the option to install windows the next screen will ask you to hit F8 to agree to the license. Press F8 and the system will go out and look to see if windows is already installed on your system. It will find the windows installation and it is at this time that you select to REPAIR the installation. This will ensure that your documents, data, music, pictures, videos and programs are not deleted.

Bios does not see cd-rom but dos does, can't boot cd

Sounds like a hardware issue. Try downloading UBUNTU as an alternative to Windows. If you still need windows Install virtual box for UBUNTU and run it that way.

Virtual Box: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads
---

You probably have tried holding "F12" during bootup. This will give you the option to start from the CD.

If you suspect it's a BIOS issue try flashing the BIOS. You can do this by going to the PC manufacturer website and searching for support- Drivers and downloads.

If your BIOS supports USB boot you can try to update the BIOS that way. Then going back and configuring it for CD boot.

You can also try to create an ISO image of Windows and install it via USB.

You may crack the password and login your computer again.

Windows Password Recovery is right what you need in your case. The password recovery tool is designed to reset Windows login password once you accidentally forgot it or have no access to your system including Windows 7, Vista, XP etc. By burning a bootable CD, you can enter almost any computer with Windows administrator login password protected within a few seconds. Here are the step by step tutorial, pretty easy, I am sure you can handle it!

Step 1: Download Windows Password Recovery and install it on another computer.
Step 2: Prepare a blank CD/USB and run the software and use it to burn the ISO file to it.
Step 3: Put it into the CD-ROm and restart your locked computer. Change the BIOS setting of your locked computer to make it boot from the CD-ROM or USB drive. Note: start computer and press F2 or Delete to enter BISO setup
Step 4: Boot your locked computer from the created disk and remove your forgotten password. GOOD LUCK!

Problem in the HP Palvalion laptop dv6607nr model

Try using a Windows installation disk instead of your recovery disk. If the Windows disk will boot and begin the installation process then you most likely have a faulty recovery disk. If it gives you an error there may be a malconfiguration in the bios.

Good Luck

Can't find DVD drive under My Computer and regedit fix doesn't work for it

you may have to check the registry manually and if this will not work, you may have to reinstall windows.

1. click start > run > regedit > ok.
2. In Registry Editor, expand the following registry path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class

3. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

4. Delete Upper and Lower Filters. (If only one is availabel, that's fine).

5. Restart system and check your drive again.

NOTE: Make sure to do this correctly or else, system will not load to windows.

If manually deleting upper and lower filters will not work then you may have to backup your files and reinstall windows.
