CD drive door won't open.

For some reason my CD drive door will not open when I push the button. So I can't put any disks in my computer. I've tried everything I can but nothing is working. Help me please.
Thanks

have you tried a screw driver! (Just kidding! )

but can you open the computer to get inside to the power plug for the cd drive to see if it is maybe getting a bad connection in the plug?

Also does the light come on the cd drive when you restart the computer?

There is a very small hole near the push button of your drive, put a pin into it and press it along with the push button

My HP had the same problem...I solved it with the paper clip in the hole method ...when the tray opened I inserted a blank CD-R and left ir there...now the eject button works fine as long as there is a blank CD left in the tray at all times.

1) There might be a program running in the background that is preventing access to the drive.

I have a CD-Rewriteable that uses such a program to "packet write". The small program by default loads at startup. If a Rewriteable CD is in the drive, that program must be running to eject the disc in some cases.

Many if not all CD-ROMs have automatically executing programs that run when you first insert the disc. If your CD has one of these, the program might not be running correctly on your machine and so the drive isn't accessible.

Does it happen with all of your CD's? If so, you might work around it by deselecting "autorun" in the control panel, system, device manager, CD-ROMs, and then restarting.

You can find out which program might be running in the background by typing "ctrl-alt-del" (once!) while in windows, and looking at each entry in the list carefully, and close one at a time to determine the problem, leave "explorer" alone though. If you figure it out, remove it from the StartUp menu in Start, Programs, or even uninstall it from the control panel.

If none of these are it, then you might have a bad drive, you could try a known good drive in your machine or your drive in another machine to tell. 2) if the paperclip doesn't work
Open your CD ROM casing find the circular motor (the circle shape location right in the middle of the CD ROM) press down that motor and you will find your tray is ejected.

CD/DVD Drive Tray problems
There are two ways to open the CD/DVD drive door if the button just below the drive tray does not work.
Go to My Computer and right click on the drive and click on Eject.
If this does not work then you can manually open the CD/DVD drive tray by -
Straighten a paper clip and gently insert it into a tiny hole below the drive tray next to the Eject button. Push the paper clip gently until the drive tray pops out, then pull the tray until it is fully out, then you can remove the CD/DVD disc.

Open Computer in start menu, right click on the Drive, scroll down to Eject, click. Pull the outer frontcover door down so you can access the drive, push the button on the drive , does it work? Remove the faceplate/frontcover of the desktop something is misaligned or obstructing the button on the drive or it's broken.

CD DOOR WON'T OPEN

Just below the CD/DVD tray there is a tiny hole. Insert a straighten paper clip in this hole and gently push the paper clip until the CD/DVD tray pops out. You can now pull the tray out until it is in the fully opened position to remove the disc.
Try pushing the eject button to see if the tray closes, then push the eject button to see if the tray opens.
If this foes not work then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and it needs to be replaced.

What type of assembly do you have for your 2nd Optical. Is it so close together with the top one it won't open? Replacing a door and linkage is very tricky. What would happen if you put the new one on top and the other below it. Should that not work, you may have damaged your new drive. It sucks and I've done it before. Some of those 5.25's are really tight. Let me know if your 2nd drive still works.

There is usually a little hole in the front of a CD/DVD player that you can put the end of a paper clip in and push on to open the door to see if a disk is stopping it from opening. Sometimes just opening it that way will fix the problem.
