Question about Nikon Speedlight SB-600 TTL Flash

Sb600 display fine, but no longer flashes

I have a d70 and an sb600. the sb600 strangely no longer flashes. the display works perfectly fine and the batteries seem to be fully charged. the ready light will still blink after taking a shot even though it did not flash. after blinking the ready light will not stay on to indicate that the sb600 is ready for the next shot.

any thoughts on what i can do to correct this?

I have a Sb-600 and experiencing the same problem, tryied many things from new batteries and beleive I will need to send to repair anyway. The ready light is steady red, when I take a picture it takes a while ( like it's waiting for the flash to fire ) and the fires without it ... also the test button doesn't produce any light, only the buzzz sound associated with the high capacity volt chargers inside it ( which sound just like it was before ).

This happened after not using for a few months, so any help is appreciated.

Display works and is able to be changed. Red ready light is on. Flash won't fire, but red light blinksoff and on when it should fire the flash. have checked and changed batteries. Will not work manually firing the flash or on the D90. Has worked to for 1 month.

the sync speed for the sb-600 is onlt 1/200 on most cameras i think so if your shutter is faster then that then all you will see is black/ the curtans behind the shutter.

basicly just try again with a slower shutter speed

Sb600 flash has no communication with d70 camera

Have you tried using the wireless mode? Even if there is a problem with the hot shoe interface, it might still work using the wireless mode. To do this you have to set both the camera and the flash. On the D70, under the menu with the icon that looks like a pencil, select Flash Mode|Commander Mode|TTL|OK. On the flash, hold down the Zoom and [-] buttons to get the CSM menu. When you see the zigzag arrow, push the Mode button to turn on the wireless mode. You may have to use the [+] or [-] buttons to cycle through the menu to find the zigzag arrow.

Now you should be able to use the flash detached from the camera. Just pop up the D70 flash, which will tell the SB-600 what to do via light pulses. There are other settings that may be required (channel and group settings must match between camera and flash) and be careful not to block the light sensor on the side of the SB-600. If the wireless system is still working, you may find you like it better than hot shoe operation.

Nikon sb600 flash

Auto zoom only works when on the hot shoe of the camera. You also need to make sure that its in the righht mode (make sure that above the word Zoom on the display it doesn't have a "m").

Oh and of course you have to have a CLS (Creative LIghting System) compatible camera.

SB600 Works Erratically...

If red light on flash is blinking, flash is charging. In shooting rapidly, sometimes flash will go off even though it isnt fully charged. This can give dark shots. Flash eats batteries like crazy, best to always use fresh batteries for each shoot.

Sb600 wireless mode not working...

Remember that even though sb-600 is wireless, it is based on infrared. This usually means having a clear line-of-sight between flash commander and remote flash. Any object that gets in way can block signal from flash commander. Weak batteries in flash will also cause remote operation to be sporadic.

Nikon SB600 flash behaving strangely

I have sent my SB-600 to Nikon twice in the past 6 months to resolve this problem. They have fixed it both times, but never told me what the problem was. I've had it back for exactly 1 day now, and it's started back up again already. If I receive a solution (or replacement), I'll let you know!

SB800 firing but not syncing??

I had that same problem with the SB600 and the SB 800. Solutions; get a new one. After about a year of usage the sb600 started giving me that problem. It flashes but it does not sync. It still works as a remote unit, but not mounted on the camera. The SB800 just went to a coma last weekend. No sync at all, not even as remote unit, no strobe function, just a bright flash, when triggering the test button with new fresh batteries, it flashes at max power once and takes around 7 seconds to recycle. No multiple flashes at all. I had to buy a new one.
