    I have 2 gateway Plasma 42" TVs

They both had 2 inch vertical lines one on the left side of one tv. The other tv had the line on the right side. Very identical lines. The one that appeared on the left finally disappeared after months and has not re-occured since. The tv with one vertical line on the on the right now has one more on the left. I accidentally unplugged the tv prematurely before this 2nd line started to appear. Is there an adjustment that I can do myself?

2 inch black vertical line on the right and the left of the TV

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2008

My plasma screen has the black vertical line to the right of the center of the screen (as your looking at it). It is 1 month old. How can I fix it? I saw the comment about a "buffer board" but it doesn't say what needs to be done to fix the problem. Replace board? How costly is it?

I have the exact same problem with the same TV. When I turn the TV on, there is no line. After about 1min, a 2 inch wide vertical line appears and will not go away. How can this be fixed?

Hello. Is it possible for you to choose one of these pictures to show me what the buffer board is?I'm hoping that you can blow them upif their too small. Ooh. If you only new what I had to go thru to get my camera phone pictures into this email. Please, fell free to use these pictures to help anyone that has the same problem with their Gateway Plasma Television.I just hope that the pictures are not too small to to figure out where the buffer board is.I learned about the over heated circuit board from bernie@nyclubkid .As you can see in the pictures, there is a burnt connector.Bernie, Who also gave instructions on Fix-It gave instructions on how to cut the wire and solder it back on instead. I thought about just replacing that peace. But I don't know what it's called. I call it the "Internal Power Connector".When I went on the web to find it. I saw internal power connectors. But they did'nt look like the one that I need for my tv.Please post any answers and information Thank You. Bye.

I have the same problem. 1.5-inch verticle black lines or bars. Gateway 42" plasma, model P420142V5, chassis GTW-P42M303, manufactured Oct 2003. I agree that the buffer board may indeed resolve this issue. I believe the part number for this board is 6870QSE008E (42V5xxxx.XR). Can anyone out there confirm that these part numbers are indeed related to the buffer board?

I JUST HAD THIS PROBLEM ON MY MITSUBISHI AND THEY REPLACED THE PANEL IN IT AND IT FIXED THE PROBLEM. LUCKILY IT IS UNDER WARRANTY OR IT WOULD HAVE COST MORE THAN THE TV DID.

It depends where the line is centered most, to the right or left of the center, there are buffer boards that control the vertical video, on the bottom part of the unit if you take the back off and look at the bottom part of the set you will see these address boards, they are usually about 2 inches wide and could be labeled J or K, if the unit is High Definition then you could have these buffer boards on the top part of the unit also

LG plasma 50 inch tv with a fine vertical black line in the center of the screen that runs from the top of the screen to the bottom

Try changing the input device to something you are sure works. Switch off TV manually, switch off power, remove plug and retry after 48 hours. If problem persists, please refer it to a qualified service technician.

Vertical black lines appear intermitently

Does the line appear on just one input(cable,hdmi,video1,video2,ect) or on all of them? The reason why I ask is it may be just an issue with one input setting on the television and you may be able to use a different input for a temporary fix of the problem. Plasma telivisions run very hot and it may be overheating. Try using a small mountable fan above the TV pointed into the back heat vents and see if keeping it cooler keeps the issue from happening. These TVs are repairable but usually cost more to repair than what it is worth due to plasma TVs are very in-expensive now.

Vertical Black line 3 inch width on Plasma Samsung 42C96HD after 2 months of use

On al the plasma tvs there are control boards on the lower part of the screen that control the vertical images. If one of the chips on one of the boards fail, have a bad connection, or no ground it will result in a thick black lne down the screen. Seeing as the tv is new I would get the warrantee repair on it. There is a possibility that there is a problem with the screen itself but more than likely its the boards.

Black line in center of screen

These black lines on the plasma screens are very fixable.  There is a dry solder joint on a circuit board at the bottom of the plasma that needs resoldered.  There are 6 or 7 "ribbons" along the bottom of the screen that correspond to vertical sections of the display, so you just follow the black vertical line down to figure out which one is faulty.  I just performed this fix successfully on my first attempt on a Gateway plasma, but it will work on most plasma's, specifically Hitachi, gateway, LG, Hyundai, & Akai. I think they may all have LG boards, my gateway did.
I can't really describe very well what to do, but I assure you it is fixable.  If anyone is near nashville, I might be able to help you out.  My email is tomp2000@juno.com.
thanks,
ST
