While trying to re-install software for my HP printer I keep getting this message...FATAL ERROR DURING INSTALL. It then goes on to say: Error 1305. Error reading from file C:/Program Files/HP/Digital Imaging/DocProc/Itkrn 14n.dll. What do I need to do to fix this???

Hi,
The error can be caused beacuse of two reasons, 1. The CD that you are using to install could be missing a file for installation. 2. windows operating system has a software conflict.

Try the following steps
1. Disconnect the printer from the computer
2. Remove the HP cd from the drive
3. Clean boot Xp
Steps to clean boot
loadTOCNode(3, 'resolution'); 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. Type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK. 3. Click the General tab, and then click Selective Startup. 4. Click to clear the following check boxes under Selective Startup: Process SYSTEM.INI file
Process WIN.INI file
Load Startup Items
5. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All. 6. Click OK, and then click Restart to restart the computer.Note To restore the computer to use a normal startup, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services on the General tab in the System Configuration Utility, click OK, and then click Restart to restart the computer.

4. Insert the HP cd and start installation , when prompted connect the printer.

Thanks
proton

First uninstall all software related to your HP make sure everything HP is uninstalled. Reinstall from the CD let me know if the problem comes again, if it does, post the model of your HP printer so I can get you updated drivers online and lets see if those work.

Drop me a comment with the add a comment button.

Thanks, Ekse

Fatal Error while install software for HP C8180 printer, Vistax64

Normal 0 Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
