    I guess this is not what I expected, I was hoping for the proper sulution as to what part I need to replace. I'm sure I can replace the part with a manual and schmatic after I know what is needed.

    I hope we can come up with a better solution. the 6 red flashes have to be code as to assist in what is going on.

I don't know what more I can tell you,the tv shut down by itself while I was napping. my roomate said it shut down by itself. he was present when this happened, he said it just shut down and screen went black and the 6 red flashes apeared.

    isn't there a common solution to this I'm sure other people have comented on this. if its a solder problem, what is the main circuit board failing with this issue. usually if there is a solder problem, you just replace the board.
    I'v heard it could be the g1 board and also heard it could be thermal fuse. I was hoping you could point me to the part I need.

  • steveb515 Nov 08, 2008

    I have also heard about the over current over voltage, that this may be the possible cause.
    this a-b board is that 1 or 2 boards and by any chance do you know the part # and the location of these boards

If you download the service manual and check the G1 board schematic diagram on page # 57, look for D1630. That diode is the 6 volts rectifier and according to the 6 blinks, it means that the voltage might be missing or low, if the voltage is low you will have to measure C1677 for low dielectric/capacitance or replace it.
If you decide to replace the entire G1 assembly, you can find it here.

First make sure all the cable at the back of the TV is connected properly.

The problem you referred means that the TV is going in protect mode because it detects an internal problem, try leaving it unplugged for a longer time, let say one hour or two.
Basically, what happens is that the TV does not start because it detects that there is an internal problem, such as a wrong voltage, a bad component, overheating etc.
When you unplug power and restart it, you reset the internal circuit, and the TV will restart, not detecting the internal problem.
As soon as the TV gets hot, after staying on for a while, the defective part start giving troubles, as the defective component (probably an IC, starts overheating).

From description, the Digital Processing Board can be cause for the problem as there is no video.
However all the following parts can be involved.

Parts involved can be

Digital Processing Board
LCD Controller

Contact some local tech shop or geeksquad to get the unit repaired.

Thanks

Just a suggestion, I worked on Sony tv's for 8 yers and one thing I know about them. The parts are sold in kits, this is done so that every weakened part in the circuit is replaced along with the defective one. Most times , if you omit the weakened parts, the set will fail.
I am not trying to persuade you not to fix it , just take a closer look at your options.

Take a look at this web page:

http://www.iwaynet.net/~nesda/SonyBlink.html

It is a good tool for getting some idea of Sony sets.

You say your light stays on and is blinking, then look at the variouscomments for that number of blinks on that above mentioned site.

    The most common problem we see with a 6 blink is a bad sensor.

    let me know if you want the service manual, I downloaded it and its now in a single file, Il send it to you if you want.

Hi,

Initially, the 6 blinks normally would indicate "no Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking selfdiagnosis function immediately. This would mean that the unit has to be opened up for a look and see meaning it require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back if you are considering a DIY, how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    I am assuming then that you would want to perform the repairs yourself and that are familiar with the workings internally.. Initially, pls check the:

    • low B+;

    • thermal fuse (the optical block has to be unseated);

    • fan;

    • ballast.
    Would appreciate any update (or even the lack of it).

SONY HDTV-LCD MODEL - KDF-42WE655 turns itself off. Lamp light indicator flashes red. Should I attempt to reset ? It is approx. 4 years old

I'd wager that somewhere in the menu settings, there is a "Sleep Timer". Check the menu for the sleep timer, which turns off the TV after a set length of time. Also, check your remote, there might be a "Sleep" button that would do the same thing, press it multiple times until it reads "Sleep: Off" or something similar.
