Just plug the power cable into the wall then connect the video cable to the video port on the back of your computer. All new monitors are plug-and-play which means your computer will configure it'self. If your monitor comes with an installation cd it will be a good idea to install it so you can take advantage of all the features you new monitor offer.

New computer, new lg monitor. monitor is black

Is the monitor plugged in to the computer's VGA Video Output (15 pin connector, 3 rows of pins)?
Most motherboards are able to supply very basic 640x480 video but you might want to install whatever drivers you have onto the new computer, if not already installed. This should get you off to a start, anyway. After Monitor wakes up the process will be lots easier. LCD Monitors ought to work for initial Installs.

Hooking-up a new monitor to my laptop

Find the connector on your laptop that matches your new laptop. Plug it in and let Windows discover it....
It probably will say something like "found new hardware" and will install a "generic" driver for your new monitor. After the driver is installed (and Windows should tell you that the device is ready to use", Find the row of keys known as function keys. Usually, all function keys on the top row have a second set of symbols on the "f1 through f12 keys. You should see one the looks like "lcd" which refers to the monitor on your laptop and the other that shows a rectangular symbol with an arrow indicating out to an external monitor. Once you hold the function key down and press whatever key shows the symbol, the laptop image will switch to the new monitor. To switch back to the laptop screen, reverse the process. Thanks for using Fixya.com.

Vison Monitor ( device installer error)

First you need to uninstall the driver for your old monitor. Then install the driver for the new monitor. With both drivers installed your computer is confused and shows the conflict as an error message. Hope this helps.

Added a new video card, now my monitor stays in sleep mode

If the computer originally had integrated video, have you tried reconnecting the monitor to that output? Most system boards will automatically detect when you install a separate video card, but on some you need to disable the built-in video in the BIOS before the new card will work. Also, have you considered the chance you just got a lemon of a new card? It happens sometimes (it's happened to me!).

Can't see screen to install diver for HP Compaq WF 1907

My friend just purchase this monitor yesterday. When she plugged it in to the back of the tower she received the same prompt u have mentioned. I was able to repair it because she simply did not realize that I had installed a new graphics card into her pc a few months ago. When u do this, you have to hook your monitor into the area where the new graphics card was installed. You can not plug your monitor into the same onboard card that u have previously plugged your monitor into.
Let me know, if by chance, u did install a new graphics card.
Hope this was helpful :)
